UPDATE FROM
Vonage
CANADA
Dear Saqib,
Thank you for contacting Technical Support Customer Care.
In response to your email, I do apologize for any difficulties you may have encountered with our service. However, the problem you are experiencing is due to the Government in the UAE putting the block on the ports for
Voip
communication. We understand that there have been some developments in this policy being changed, but do not know when or if it will be allowed in the near future. If there is anything else we can help you with, or it is determined that the government is no longer blocking
Voip
, we would require you to call
Vonage
Canada at your earliest convenience so that we can further trouble shoot the problem
you are experiencing. Please call 1-877-272-0528, push 1 for an
existing customer, then select 3 for technical support, and then push 2 to speak to one of our technical support agents.
I hope this addresses your concerns.
If you have further questions or concerns please feel free to browse our help & information files at
www.vonage.ca,
contact our Customer Care Center at 1-877-272-0528 or stay in touch with me directly by using the reply option on this email
Best Regards,

Post subject: meeting
Hey people, we need to get more organized, and as of right now, myself and ragga have expressed interest in working on a dedicated project for this cause. We could use some more help, and if you're tech savvy, good with web development, marketing skills, can spare some time or simply are frustrated with the situation and want to help, please PM me. Jumanji and srmillar are preapproved (guys, i've sent you PMs, lemme know if you wanna commit). Me and ragga are due to meet again today (wed) sometime in the evening, lemme know if anyone can join in... thnx.

This place exists for one thing and one thing only - business. As any business person will tell you, perception and image are the cornerstone of success. Dubai succeeds because people think this is a good place to business. Anything that changes that will be addressed and that is what publicity will do.
We came here and relocated to the DMC/DIC because of the perception that we could do business in a cost effective way but now we find out we were being hoodwinked. We are going to take huge financial loses not to underscore family stress - who will work for you if they cannot keep in touch with their family?
Spread the word within and without, tell your head offices tell your industry groups, tell your business publications, blog it, tell the press, 10,000 a month for 512K line is a hefty business cost, put word out.
Dubai is no longer as good a place to do business or live. Spread the word and pile on the pressure, we have everything to lose.

I agree. Open internet was sold to various people. This
Voip
thing is not the only place where they have suggested that they will censor the FTZ zone's internet. When a piece appeared in the British tabloid the Sun blasting a member of the UAE royal family, a minister was quoted as saying that it was inexcusable that the Sun was not blocked in Media City. CNN's regional hub is here. Imagine what would happen if they could not get to Israeli websites because they were blocked as "Anti-Islamic" like they are outside the FTZ?
My wife's company took a major hit because of the Lebanese War and work is down in Dubai at the moment. They were going to put in UK
Voip
lines and take the overflow customer support from the UK office since they were idle right now and the UK office is overworked.
For Dubai to be a regional business hub, businesses here should have the ability to install foreign phone lines. Businesses here also need to be able to connect to their international pbxes. I have a friend who works for Microsoft over here. Their extensions are part of an international centrex. They can pick up the phone and punch in an extension and be connected to Washington as easily as ringing the secretary down the hall. That is how business works.

Post subject: the petition
I've been watching the Petition site and every MINUTE that I refresh there has been like 3 - 4 more signatures on average! WOW! It's really picking up speed.
I love the comments!
I wonder if Etisalat / DIC / Regulation Agency will even take a look a this.
