Do not just sign the petition, circulate it to your friends and family. Even better ask them to circulate it and copy it to their local papers and news organizations.
Let the businesses thinking of relocating here think twice, let all those people seeking to buy houses here think twice, let everyone know how this place really works beneath the glamour.

Yes, please keep the pressure on, spread the word. I have noticed that many just gave up using Yahoo, MSN, and
Vonage
and now calling via Land lines and mobile!!!!!! trust me, if the two headed monster (Etisalat/ DU) see an increase in revenue from this block, THEY WILL NEVER open it up..

Skype does not work either. I haven't scrolled through all the posts here, but over at forum.skype.com there is a big discussion about it being blocked. If you are connected to Skype, you will keep the connection until you sign off or reboot. They are blocking the log on process. Before putting any on Skype, try a call to the Skype Echo Test service (echo123).
Etisilat is using a system called Bitek which is designed to block Skype. They just started this last week. This block unlike the Skype block might not be 100%. People have reported ultimately connecting after repeated triies, but it certainly makes miserable.
If this issue has been addressed elsewhere, please foregive me. I've gotten through about sixteen pages of post, but have not finished reading everything.

Sad Day in the modern history of the UAE.
It was officially confirmed today that the Telecom Regulatory Authority made the decision to block ALL voice over IP services online. So, Du and Etisalat are now pointing the problem to them
(To make extra $$ to the two headed telecom monopoly).
Call Etisalat to confirm.
Very sad

THA,
Could you post your source on this. I don't doubt you, but it is also nice to read this for yourself.
Thanks.

The source is from Etisalat IT support! Called this AM.
He was reading from a paper. My feeling is that they will probably make the newspaper announcement in association with a minor reduction in cost of international calls and some BS on how they plan to have a 3rd provider in 2008.
Can any one confirm this plz.

I wish to drop in with some words of wisdom if I might.
Your concern here is not the first one that we have seen.
I hope this issue we seem to have here works it self out via the channels that you all have mentioned. In the past, this is what has been most useful in correcting problems such as yours:
1) Posting here.
2) Get the press involved.
3) Blog about it.
4) Get the press involved.
5) Blog about it.
6) Get the press involved.

That what he said. Folks outise the FTZ have been blocked for months. I think the hatchet on Skype fell simultaneously in and out of the FTZ pointing to a device being put in upstream.
