Post subject: Doesnt Work in Sharjah Airport Free Zone either
I am in the SAIF zone and all
Voip
was down until today. I just noticed that Skype is back a short while back in the SAIF zone. I live in Dubai and everything
Voip
has been dead. As of this morning Skype wasn't working in Dubai, but I will check in a few hours.

guys and gals
there has to be technical solution of getting around this problem
Basically I have been reading that we need to create a VPN using a service like Hotspot VPN
Basically - its requires creating a tunnel and then routing all Internet access through this
Problem with this - unless you have a server at home - how do you route your
Vonage
connection using Ethernet - through your computer that also shares an ethernet connection?
One way I have been told to get a router that supports PPTP client - therefore - the router it self form the secure connection rather than the computer
I am just checking my router and how to do this. I will try it later today and see if it works. I have feeling this is more complicated that it sounds - lets see
I know this is technical - just spend this morning reading on it
cheers

Hi,
The problem with VPN and
Vonage
is that is significatnly reduces the quality of the call due to the added encryption.
Besides - this forum is probably not the best place to discuss solutions as the Etisilat spies will be onto it before you can blink. Please PM me if you wish to discuss the technicalities - I think there are a few ways round it.

Jumanji - I tried to post something on the Gulf News link you sent
http://www.gulfnews.com/nation/Technology/10060697.html
but once I said submit, I got a TCP error - similar to the blocked TCP error that one gets from Skype. I think Etisalat has become so desperate that they cannot handle the negative feedback being published online.
I have been trying it for a while now - same error. No profanity or anything in my reply - still its not going through....

Ok - time to get serious. I have setup this site:
http://www.petitiononline.com/uaevoip/
Get everyone to sign it you know - I will post it to 7Days as well. Let's see how many signatures we can get.

Post subject: Beat me to it...
hey srmillar, i woke up this morning thinking of doing the same thing! I'm glad to notice you've set up a petition, i'm gonna go ahead and sign it right now.. My morning brainstorm session also included setting up a dedicated site for the cause (instead of relying on this thread that's now 20+ pages long), if this thing doesn't resolve in the very near future, lemme know, maybe we can set up a basic site. It occurred to me that of all those people disturbed by the blocking of
Voip
services, only a small percentage has reached this site, and an even smaller percentage actually bothers to post. There must be hundreds of people out there, and if we target them precisely, maybe we get the ball rolling on a public protest
haha ok now i'm getting carried away, my intent is not to begin a riot with a stoning of the etisalat building, but we should definetly be able to exercise an option of expressing ourselves using appropriate diplomatic channels
