Thanks Gator...
Look forward to your reply!
Ragga - I did vote on the petition, looks like it's over 2200 now!
Chris
PS: I use a mac, and am able to activate a "anonymiser", which seems to do something similar to a VPN tunnel, but was still unable to connect skype or
Vonage
. Seems a VPN router may be the solution.

My husband talked to some guy at DIC yesterday to voice his complaint about the blockage. The guy was sympathetic, but said that Etisilat spent $2 million on this new software that blocks
Vonage
, and that he does not see them changing their mind now.
If someone has been able to get around this block somehow successfully, can you please let the rest of us know.
Kind appreciation,
Maryam Medina

1. First of all, etisalat is ridiculous for spending $2mil on software that does that, (i guess they have the money to waste so it doesnt matter)
2. KEEP UP THE PROTESTING. I am sure they would rather for go the $2mil than possibly losing residents who invest much more into this country.

YES, they have blocked my method as well... looks like the only way left is to complain as we are in a free zone, and our internet should be unregulated. '
if u want more details on the block they did today, please message me!

some poeple are saying they can get through using my method, just voice quality is really bad, this is a new system that makes it very difficult to speak to the other person, basically making the method useless..
but still msg me, i can help you through vpn since i have it figured out now. this is the last method which they CANNOT block.

chris, an anonymizer is nothing more than a proxy for web surfing.. basically.. it routes all http traffic through a certain point.. just like all our traffic is routed through etisalat's servers.
vpn works because it routes all traffic to another point, not just web surfing traffic.. vpn really is the only solution until the slob pigs at etisalat unblock the free zones..
guess its like plato's cave eh ;p not truly free

Post subject: V-phone anyone?
Has anybody tried the V-phone? I am still trying to configure the vpn tunnel with the router. However, if the quality of the v-phone is good then things become easier ...

Is the softphone eligible for unlimited plans or can you only use it on a softphone plan (e.g. 500 minutes and then PAYG) on top of a regular
Vonage
plan. If that is the case, why not get voicestick's plan where you get a DID, no monthly fee, and pure PAYG?
