Ports are irrelevant. Bitek profiles packets. That is how they can block Skype. Skype does not use any particular port. People who were covered by Etisilat rather Tecom were playing the port switching game for a while and were cut off several months ago.
Someone commented on the comments of the Du CEO, are they on the web? If

Post subject: old news
I found a couple of old, out-dated articles on the net and some info on Bitek ... this basically confirms that TRA/Etisalat has been on this case for several months now and have invested a great deal of time and money in going that extra mile to block of all VOIP/Skype services for UAE customers... Being the case, they're not gonna let down their guard so easily...

Just look at the timing and lies. First, the full block went on in the mid August (the time when MOST expats are out of town and things are very slow). Second, the lies, they started with 2-3 days fix, then it was Etisalat, then we will work on it, then the DU CEO comes out of the closet and say, it is TARA and we will not do anything about it!
They think people will give up and in two weeks time, they will show how much their profits have increased! and then, with the Gov's blessing, it is done! back to the dark ages.
Do you really believe that it takes THAT LONG to find a fix!!!!! you can build an entire data center and connections in a week's time!.

Actually, you need to move back to June in your timing. That is when Etisilat tightened its block on SIP based communications.

Post subject: keep the pressure on!
I'll begin by saying that I'm certainly guilty on my part for having put this matter on tha back burner. But I'd like to plead to all on this forum and elsewhere to please keep the pressure on DIC/TECOM... Call them whenever you get a chance and give them the feedback that is due... There is a strong possibility they're "gonna wait and see" how the public reacts, if things die out then the
Voip
block is here to stay. And once it becomes concrete, it'll become very difficult, if not impossible, to remove it. So please, call them, email them, do whatever it takes, and keep this thread/forum alive and give each the assurance that we're all in this together! thank you in advance
