I called tech support today, they said speak to samir at 04 361 3612 regarding this issue, calling now lets see...
Also, which comment are you talking about at the end of the article?
Also, no one picked up at that number, so i called the general number again, the lady sheryl said that they did not block anything, and there is an article in the gulf news, and they are desperately working to fix this... etisalat has blocked it like you guys said. I NEED my
Vonage
, my skype wont even work, heres a good test that will work onces they fix it...

thanks for sharing the article
I agree as a former telecom analyst - this is quite a major thing to block UDP ports and cannot be blamed on ignorance
I think Etisalat were just trying it on. Its pretty poor excuse 'the blocking of sites is not caused by any action we have taken on the EITC network. We are looking into the matter and hope to quickly identify and rectify the source of the problem'
Just about everyone uses Yahoo or MSN messenger
I am disappointed that DIC does not have international connectivity of its own given its in the freezone- it depends far too much on Etisalat
Until Etisalat is privatised - there is really no hope that it will behave in this way
Does anyone know if broadband via satellite is a feasible option?
thanks

ragga.. i spoke with sheryl also.. as soon as i got off the phone, i hung up and called back to speak with someone else.. no offense, but she is clueless
also, i did mean the comments at the bottom.. maybe they'll create a forum to discuss this matter or include comments along with the article..
intra, i guess right now all we can do is guess at the motives.. i don't believe they were expecting this kind of reaction to the blocks.. but maybe they were testing the waters, so to speak.

ragga.. broadband over sattelite really stinks.. as far as i know, the downstream is limited to 512k (not that bad).. but the upstream is limited by a dial-up modem.
basically you would still dial into a service.. so its not -always on- and then you would be charged the hourly/minute rate of whatever it takes to call that number.
don't bother

I think patience is the word here - the one thing in our favour is that Etisalat have not come out and said they are blocking access becasue of
Voip
. At the end of the day, if they had, they would have just been up front about it (like when the blocked everyone else) so I do think now that they have a technical issue. They dont reallly case because they are a monopoly right now.
I am going to do some research but I guess that Yahoo chat etc use UDP ports similar to
Vonage
and this means that if they fix Yahoo (which they will have to) then
Vonage
will be fixed.
