Dah..... You DO need to have a seperate plan! Now you also will need a seperate number which is one more thing to print on your business card.
I already use the Voicestick and I have an analog adapter for a regular phone and the softphone via the stick. Rings in both places and I only pay for one account. (I also tie it into my cell phone)
Vonage is looking to have people buy more then one account. This will not fly. Heck, you could do the same thing with any $20 stick, and use Skype, VoiceStick , or a ton of others. |

Great idea, but only if they would allow us to use it with our current home number or at least program whatever number we would like... |

I don't actually want it to use the same number as my home number. This would make it complicated to call home with it. Also, if I made a call while on the v-phone, the home phone would then be unavailable to make calls. This would be OK for people who weren't sharing a home line, but unacceptable otherwise. What I would really like is for it to be included in the same plan as my home number and to allow me to have my home number simulring the v-phone while maintaining the ability for the v-phone to call home and home to call v-phone. This is very similar to mobile phone family plans. This, of course, won't fly because it is essentially a second line. The problem I have is that it is being charged as a full second line and not as a SoftPhone line, and that actually points out that there is a price discrepancy between adding a second line and using a SoftPhone for a second line (with an unlocked adapter perhaps). Many of the features that you lose on a SoftPhone are not all that desired on a second line anyway. Why would Vonage costs be higher for a second line than a SoftPhone besides subsidizing the equipment costs? I guess I was hoping for a different pricing plan for the v-phone. Something that made it make sense for low volume callers. It seems silly to me that I can go get a third party stick and use a SoftPhone plan for less. |

I was too. I like the way you suggest. |

They are just looking to get existing customers to buy a second account. Can't blame them. But they are now heading into the world of LOW cost providers. Why pay for a home account at $25 a month and a Stick account for another $25. VoiceStick is $20 for both usage of an ATA and a stick (and would use the same phone number that rings both places) Skype will download to a USB stick (Cost of stick, MAYBE $20) and the calls out are free (till year end) and incoming is $4.00
I think the newest slant that companies will use this is just silly. They will download a soft phone and use Bluetooth, not some $2 headset with a mic that hangs down to your chest!
They have a decent business idea, it just needs to get real.
As to consumers, way off base. |

Why can AIM.com charge $10 bucks for unlimited calls on its software based phone, and that includes international calls, but Vonage on its softphone and V-Phone charges so much more?
I love my regular PAP2 Vonage phone, but if I could get another number on a wifi phone or v-phone and have it in the same minutes package as my regular phone, I would get a v-phone or wifi.
At the moment, they miss a slae to me because of poor pricing. |

For Vonage it is a way to get people to pay for more then one account. I doubt that there will be many doing this.
The other guys, Voicestick, that they seemed to have copied allow all kindgs of ways to use the ONE account and ONE phone number.
Vonage, are you listening? |

Vonage was perfect for me when I started my business. I did not want to deal with Bell South, and I need a telephone number prior to actually getting my office. I also needed a fax line, so getting a MetroPCS (a local cell phone company that offers unlimited service) phone would not have been have been good enough. So far, I have been very happy with Vonage. I like the fact that I can go online and have a record of all my calls. I think they miss the mark in marketing the WiFi phone and V-Phone. In my (less than) humble opinion, if AIM.com can offer a virtual phone which offers unlimited calling to choice European and Asian cities, Vonage should be able to offer the same thing. Further, the V-Phone and WiFi phones shoudl be offered at a discounted rate for ppl who already have business plans with Vonage.
Their pricing prevents me from buying more Vonage devices. |

That is why I went with VoiceStick. With one account and I can use a Analog Atapter for using a standard phone, sofphone of my coice for computer use, a USB stick with a no download Softphone, AND with the Web Bridge I can use my cell phone with the Voip.
The last one saves me a fortune over using my cell company for International Long Distance |
