When I switched to Vonage I bought the WRTP54G direct from Vonage. I replaced my WRT54GS with the WRTP54G and it works fine for about a day but then it starts having difficulty going to certain sites. So I have to reboot the router and then it works fine again. I use a WISP for internet. I reboot my router ever morning now and I think that helps but its kind of silly. Anyone experience this problem?

the wrtp isn't that great. put the wrt54gs back in front of it and see if it fixes it. I realize you probably want to consolidate boxes, but...

Electronic devices are sensitive to input power. If the voltage is too high they will overheat and one of the symptoms is random lockups or resets. Many voltage transformers work fine, but some will put out voltage way beyond what you expect. I had a 12V transformer putting out 17V - easily measured with a DC voltage meter. If it is too high, swap it out with one verified to give proper voltage (closer to 12V) and see if that resolves your problem.

If I put the WRT54GS back into play and disabled the wireless on this WRTP54G would that fix my problem or should I look on eBay and see if I can buy a wired Vonage router for relatively cheap? If I buy a new wired Vonage router do you guys have a recommendation? Would I still be able to do bandwidth saver? Also would the config be WISP to WRT54GS to Vonage Router?

Put the WRT54GS back out front, make the WRTP54G a Vonage device only, and turn off its wireless. Once you do this, the WRTP54G makes a fantastic Vonage device, as long as it doesn't have to bother with routing, and your WRT54GS is a FAR better router.

I have pretty much the same config:

Internet -> WRT54G V4 (HyperWRT Thibor) -> WRTP54G

All my other computers are on the WRT54G V4, and the WRTP54G has no clients connected to it. Works great.

Is the WRT54GP2 a much better router than the WRTP54G?

So Internet connection goes to the WRT54GS's WAN and then I go from an Ethernet port on the WRT54GS to the WAN of the WRTP54G?

From what I've read here, stop wasting your time. Now.

Vonage routers are all decent consumer grade routers, but not for any sort of load like BitTorrent and none of them have working QoS.

You have a WRT54GS, use it. Or go insane trying to make a Vonage router work, like I did. See my avatar? That's me ripping my hair out trying to make a WRTP54G work for me.

Another router is not only cheaper than trying one dedicated Vonage device after another, it's also faster, especially since you already HAVE a good one. And far better for the hair, unless you like the tufted, mostly bald, "I just tore it all out" look. Smile

Okay cool I disabled the wireless on the Vonage router and hooked it up the way you and I suggested. It works fine now with the exception that I can't access the Vonage router thats on 192.168.15.1 but I assume its because the WRT54GS is on 192.168.1.1. I would imagine I would no longer need to access the Vonage router anyways?
