Hello.
I am trying to connect Vonage through out my house and I have a problem. My network interface is (no kidding) about 50 years old. It looks exactly like the box in the tutorial that is in the stickey but only one thing is different. I have the two screw terminals and one has a red wire and one has a green wire. What is different is both terminals have a blue/white wire attached to them.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks. |

Let me make sure I understand- both terminals have a blue/white wire on them? It's not a blue wire on one and a blue/white on the other? Sometimes the blue wire actually has 2 different shades of blue.
The old color standard was red and green for line one. The newer standard is blue and blue/white for line 1. If you had a blue wire on the same terminal with the red and a blue/white on the same terminal with the green, I would guess that some newer wall jacks had been added using newer cable, and the old jacks used the red and green. Alternately, the red and green could be the outside line and the blue and blue/white the inside wiring. As it is, I can't say.
Can you identify wires coming from the outside? Usually they would be from a heavier cable than the one(s) used inside the house. |

On terminal 1: blue/white wire and red wire
On terminal 2: blue/white wire and green wire
And the box is about 50+ years old if that helps. |

Yarg. Can you identify wires that come from outside; i.e., the landline? Can you identify which wires go into the house? Do the blue/white wires both come out of the same cable?
One thing I would do is pull a couple of the house jack covers off. What color wires are servicing the jacks, and how are they connected?
Do you have voltmeter? If so, are you comfortable using it? |
