7. For the past day, my
Vonage
router has been rebooting constantly. I called LInksys and they claim it to be firmware related. I am in IT and have used various routers, etc throughout my life, but this is not a firmware issue. So, I call
Vonage
. They tell me to do the usual "reboot, unplug, etc". Doesnt fix the issue.
Here are the details:
I plug it in, the power light blinks, brings up the router services (wireless, DHCP, etc) for about 3 seconds then reboots. What gives? Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks!

Post subject: Wireless router rebooting
I have seen other Linksys wireless routers reboot because of wireless interference. Do the usual check for interference sources: telephones, microwaves, wireless cameras. Try getting into the setup and turning off the wireless networking to see if that helps. If it's not interference, get the router replaced.

What firmware revision is this WRTP54G on?
There is a known issue (at least well known on this forum, if not known by
Vonage
tech support) that most of the WRTP54G units still ship with a hideously ancient firmware version. 1.00.62 is the latest I'm aware of.
In order to free up memory to upgrade from the old version (it usually sticks at 1.00.18 or 1.00.20, you need to turn off the wireless (set wireless type to DISABLE) and leave it like that for a while, so the 1.00.18 -> 1.00.20 -> onward upgrade can complete. There isn't enough memory in the WRTP54G to run wireless AND perform that one upgrade at the same time.
Thankfully, once you get past that barrier, the firmware upgrades should all run smoothly, even with wireless on. There's really only one major upgrade that has this problem.

I got
Vonage
to send me a new WRTP54G. Hopefully, this will fix the issue. I will not enable wireless for a while,so that the firmware can update.

To check your firmware version, look at the upper-right hand corner of any of the router's config screens, including the logon screen. Once that reads 1.00.62, you are completely up to date and should be able to turn wireless back on.

FWIW, there is supposedly a 1.00.64 firmware sitting on the
Vonage
servers, but they haven't rolled it out yet. As usual, I'm not sure what changes have been made to it.

I await the upgrade with breathless anticipation. Or is that mind-numbing fear? Well, one of those...
