You have to have Internet service to use it. So if you just have a DISH or DirectTV television service, then no.
If DISH and DirectTV have started offering Internet access (they might have, for all I know), then yes!
There ARE some satellite ISPs, but your connection is usually expensive, slower than other forms of broadband (like Cable, DSL, T-1 ...) and the connection can get dodgy. People generally use it becuase they are geographically located somewhere (like a ship!) where it's impossible to get the other Internet services. |

Again, maybe. You are not going to get a straight answer because there is not straight answer. All that I can say is that I got mine working. But don't blame me if you can't get your's working. BTY, my set-up. DirecTV Hughs Tivo -> Home Phone Network -> Radio Shack DSL Filter -> Moto VT-1005 -> Cable Modem. I can make my calls about half of the time but I was able to stay connected long enough to download the latest software update (10 min). Also, if you are just getting DirecTV without Tivo, you do not need a phone hook-up no matter what the installer tells you. As far as Tivo goes, check out this website and do a search for Vonage:
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/
There is alot of good info there. Hope that helps. |

That is true if you plan on ordering through your remote. Otherwise, just order from your account page (internet). It's just about as fast. |

I'm sorry.. I didn't understand. Personally, my family NEVER hooked our receiver up to a phoneline and despite threats from our on-screen programming guide, things worked fine.. but then, we only occasionally did PPV. |
