Guess what. I bought an adapter off ebay, before researching. I had been a customer for 18 months, and a surge took out my original adapter. I bought a new one and they said they COULD get it swapped (MAC swap). The tech stated that they are changing policy all the time and that they are realizing that people can legally attain a legit device from the online world! Go figure.

Same thing just happened to me, seller claimed Vtech IP 8100-2 phones he had were new, never used, box had just been opened but it was never set up, as he got the Vonage silver Router and didn't need the phones. I bid, I win, Low an behold they arrive, I set it up, and the ready light stays forever yellow, never turning green. I can still get on the net thru the base. I called Vonage, and as the above poster stated, they put in a ticket, and sounded fairly confident that they can get it activated. It would really be a blessing, as I got what normally costs $140 + for under $40. I'll know something in the next 48 hours.

There is nothing wrong with buying an old Vonage router on eBay. They still function perfectly well as a standard wireless G router.

Unless you want to actually use Vonage.

Well, looks like I didn't have to wait the whole 48 hrs, I went to bed, went to work, got home, and the phone base on the Vtech 8100-IP was glowing ready green, and low and behold, I pick up my receiver and there is a dialtone. It comes up with my old phone number, and i guess the transfer is still in process, when i call the number, it still rings to my old AT&T. I then saw the temporary virtual number, it rings the phone, naturally. Any Idea on how long tranferring an old number takes?

It was suprisingly easier than I thought. I can't wait to tell ma bell good bye forever, the minute the old number trans goes thru, I can't call quick enough

So if I buy a brand new WRT54GP2 off eBay it would work fine with Vonage and not violate TOS?

That's right. If it's brand spanking new in the box, and sealed, you should have no problem. That's like buying it at retail. But beware, even if someone says, "I only used it for 2 weeks, or 2 days, or 2 hours" don't purchase it. It's too much of a hassle when you can just get a new one with no issues.

The only thing is a lot of these auctions say "removed the UPC for promotional purposes" that wouldn't affect anything right?

They are trying to get a rebate. All the rebates on Vonage equipment are tied to activation - either theirs or yours. If they didn't activate the Vonage box, they cannot get a rebate.

If you activate the Vonage box, they might try to get the rebate - so that will be an additional $50+ in their pockets provided you keep the service.

I'd like to throw in my 2 cents here!

Its sad to see that everyone assumes that someone selling a used router on eBay is trying to scam someone.

I recently sold my used WRTP54G on eBay. I sold it because I couldn't do any online gaming or P2P downloading without a serious loss in phone quality and at times not being able to use the phone at all. Did some research and found that this router just couldn't handle it. So I picked up a WRT54GL and PAP2 device and figured why not sell the WRTP54G and help someone save a couple bucks. Now I get a phone call from the guy who bought the router saying he had problems activating it. I had no idea it would be a problem and obviously he didn't either.

Am I trying to scam someone?!?! NO. I think its absolutely rediculous that Vonage is essentially forcing people to buy new equipment in order to get service.
