i just made a phone call (to a family member i call all the time) but when they answered they told me that the caller id was NOT my number as has always been the case, but a different phone number all together. my phone number is in the 281 area code, but the number that came through on caller id was from the 213 area code.
this is highly bizarre. it's the first time it's happened to me that i know of, but this is major -- has anyone else seen this? this is almost a deal breaker if people i call will get some random caller id sent to them instead of my real number |

Did anything show up unusual in you dashboard for that call? Different number listed there as well possibly? The reason I ask is because I just noticed on one of my two lines that there are calls that we never made and that are listed mostly as In-Plan calls, but the number called is definatly not our other phone line. Not sure what is going on but maybe the issues are related. |

it's probably not related to the issue from above, but now i'm noticing that my outgoing calls are ringing 4-5 times before the other side even hears a ring. i called my sister's house, and after ringing 6 times i hung up. she called right back and told me it had just rung once on her end when i hung up. so i decided to call one of my land lines and the same thing happened -- i called land line and i could hear the ringing tone through my Vonage line, and it rang 5 times before my land line rang. |

Sounds like a customer service issue <shudder>. You might want to try 888 250 1799. I believe that goes directly to tier 2. |

well. the extra rings issue has apparently gone away -- it lasted a couple of hours, it looks like. and so far i haven't had another case of incorrect caller id being sent out when i call out (though i haven't called too many people)... but it is exceedingly curious that it happened in the first place.
and to answer the previous question which i apparently forgot to address yesterday, there is no bizarre activity in my call log on the Vonage site. the call in question which sent the incorrect caller id did appear in my outgoing calls log, so their system recognized it as "my call", but somehow sent the incorrect caller id info. i did a quick once-over on my other call logs and didn't notice any calls that should not have been there (i.e., ones i've not made) but i also couldn't really tell if there were calls missing which i did make and perhaps got credited to someone else. who knows...
guess i'll just have to keep an eye out. but it's kinda hard to know if it happens since i can't ask everyone i call what the caller id info was for me... how weird would that be if every time someone called you they asked what the caller id said? |

i've had the service since august of last year, getting brand new equipment directly from Vonage, and this is the first time i've ever seen this issue. like i mentioned before, though, that doesn't mean that it hasn't happened -- it's just that this is the first time someone brought it to my attention that their caller id didn't match what number i called them from.
i think i passed across something similar to this several weeks back when browsing the forum, but i didn't look too deeply into that when i posted. if memory serves, the responses to those people was similar in nature, looking first at if it was legit equipment, etc.
i hope this is some kinda of totally random fluke, but ya gotta wonder how something like that would be able to go wrong and if that can go wrong, what else could go wrong which would potentially make your outgoing calls appear unprofessional or "shifty". |
