I just signed up about a month ago and I have one of the new Moto VT2442's. The issue is that I have static IP addresses for each of the machines in my house and they all have to be directly network accessible. I was able to configure the ATA to use a static IP without a problem, but the question is QoS. I'd like my Voip packets to be prioritized over my other Internet traffic, so the question is how? Can the 2442 be configured to act as a QoS switch rather than a NATing router or is there a generic QoS-smart switch that I can get to replace my existing 10/100 dumb switch?
I have multiple servers and PCs that need to have their own IP addresses so putting them behind the 2442 is not going to happen, unless it can be configured as a switch rather than a router.
(if you don't understand the difference between a switch and a NATing router, please don't respond) |

What you're looking for is a "managed switch." They do exist, but usually aren't cheap. They are, in effect, routers but lack NAT. You might be able to pick up a few good ones off E-Bay. I have a few older BayStack managed switches that I've picked up over the years. They're only 10Mbit, but for internet surfing, they're more than enough. |
