Post subject: Cordless Phones do Not Ring With Vonage
Hi,
I've tried a Motorola and a Uniden cordless phone, and they just do not ring. The Motorola lights up and displays caller-id, but does not ring. I have verified that the ringer is turned on, and when hooked to a land-land it rings. The uniden doesn't do anything when a call comes in. It too, rings when hooked to a land line.
If I connect a corded phone to my ATA, it rings, so the ATA is not the problem... but neither, it would seem, are the cordless phones.
Any suggestions? I tried a micro-filter beteween the ATA and phones, but that did not solve the problem.

Do you have the adapter plugged into your household phone wiring or are the phones plugged straight into it? And, are you using the same phone port on the adapter? Phone 1 really means Line 1 and Phone 2 = Line2. If you've only got one line of
Vonage
service, only the first port will be active.

I understand you didn't mean any offense by this. I do know what I am doing.
For testing, I am plugging the phone directly into the ATA. I have it plugged into 'Phone 1' I have dial-tone, can make outbound calls, it just doesn't ring when a call comes in. Like I said, the caller-ID on the Motorola lights up and even displays the caller-id, but it never rings.

The fact that the CallerID shows up but you're not getting any ringing sounds really odd. I have Uniden cordless phones and from experimenting, the circuitry in them "wakes up" upon the first ring, then turns on the CallerID detector and processes it from there. The fact that BOTH cordless phones malfunction on the ATA makes me think the ATA is the problem. It might be worth calling up
Vonage
tech support (I know, I shudder at the thought myself) and have them see what the ring voltage, cycles, and modulation are set to. I'm not sure which settings are available to the techs on the Motos, but I know all of these are fully adjustable on the Linksys devices.

Matth, are they 2.4 GHz cordless phones and do you have wireless in your network? I admit that interferrence between a cordless phone and a wireless router resulting in no ringing sounds pretty unlikely, but we've seen just about every other symptom arising from that.

I had some very vague recollection of a thread here some time ago dealing with problems arising from the actual pattern of the ring signal (length of ring, space between rings). If I recall correctly is was a setting that could be adjusted in the adapter.
Does anyone else remember that? Could that be an issue here?
matth, have you checked that you are running the latest firmware on your ATA?

or it could be the fxs gain which was my problem when I originally signed up with
vonage
and had a very similar problem.

I thought the whole ring cadence thing was an RTP300/WRTP54G issue. Granted, the new Moto uses a TI chipset, but it uses a different chipset (and I'm assuming different
VoIP
firmware) than the RTP300 did. Still might be to blame 'though.

Yes, that was the issue I was thinking about.
Here's a cookie I am not using any longer, enjoy:
