I just activated Vonage using a PAP2 into my existing home network. (roadrunner - cable)
I will be feeding it into my house wiring after my old number number is ported.
After reading through the forum and reading the great instructions posted here I think I have a good handle on how to do the wiring, but I wanted to double check one thing and make sure it would work.
My house looks like a standard setup with two lines wired into the house from the NIU. (call them L1 and L2). L1 is using the blue - blue/white pair and L2 uses orange - orange/white. L1 also has a standard alarm setup (Brinks is the OEM) I see the normal red - green lines hooked to the red - green for L1 at the NIU. The blue - blue/white house wires are spliced the yellow - black wires ffrom the alarm. The RJ31X jack next to the alarm is wired like you would expect. (red - green - yellow - black - all where they should be... obviously, since everything is working normally.)
I have not been using L2. Originally, it was for a computer/fax line, but it has not had service in years.
Since I need to replace the POTS with a feed from the PAP2 in front of the alam, I had a thought and this is my question:
Can I just move the orange - orange/white pair at the NIC from the L2 connectors to the L1 connectors and plug in the PAP2 with a normal phone wire to a jack in the house wired to the orange - orange/white wires?
This would give me:
Code: | /(O wire)--\ /(R wire)\ /(Y wire)--(Bl wire)--\ PAP2< >NIU< >Alarm< >House \(O/W wire)/ \(G wire)/ \(Bk wire)-(Bl/W wire)/
|
I would of course pull the L1 and L2 POTS at the NIU and verify all the lines are dead before trying anything, but does this make sense? Would this work?
Thanks for listening. |

I couldn't wait for a reply. My number finished porting and I needed to go ahead and hook it up.
So basically, I connected the line 1 and line 2 lines together at the NIU, hooked the PAP2 into a jack that used to be wired for line 2 and everything else into jacks wired for the original line 1.
This config gives me Vonage -> NIU -> alarm -> house wiring -> phones.
Everything works fine. I tested the alam and it worked fine. |

Well, I was going to say that that should work fine, but you're already there. Well done. Enjoy the service. |

Thanks. I will.
And thanks for all your other posts/support on these forums. They were very helpful in making my installation smooth as silk.
My wife was amazed that I was able to make the switch in just a few moments and with no troubles. |

You're quite welcome. It's nice to know that someone actually benefits from all this stuff. |
