I need help cancelling my vonage service w/out having to call them.
Ok, here's the story:
I ported my number out of Vonage in May. My understanding was that once it was ported out my service would automatically be cancelled (as afterall, I don't have a phone number w/ them anymore). Well, I left for Bantul, Indonesia the next week expecting everything to be hunky-dory. I'm here studying and doing earthquake relief work for the next few months. I login to my email to find that I'm still being charged for Vonage and my account is still open (with my phone number that no longer routes through vonage listed as active. It's not). I tried cancelling via email and got some BS about them having to verify my identity with my voice.
My experience with being on hold for customer service in the past leads me to believe a call to Vonage would yield at minimum a 30 minute phone call. From Indonesia that is going to run me about the price of a month's service or more appropriately, an amount similar to the cost of meals for a month here. This is, quite frankly, unacceptable.
Vonage at this point is providing me with NO service, there is no phone number, I cannot dial out from the vonage adapter (still in the states and stopped working when my number was ported out). Why do they refuse to cancel my account when they are providing me with nothing other than just greed?
Does anyone out there no of any way short of calling these punks to get my service cancelled? I'm tempted to just tell my credit card company to stop accepting charges from them and to chargeback my last invoice amount (as it was for a month of NO service), but I don't want Vonage trying to collect on me. Any CSRs out there that can help? |

I would mail them a letter. That is an acceptable way of canceling, and won't cost you an arm and a leg. Screw calling them, sounds like you have more important things to do. You can find their address on the forum here. |

Yes, your Terms of Service give you very specific directions for cancelling in writing, complete with the address to send the cancellation to.
AFTER you do this (thereby fullfilling your obligation under the TOS), then, if you feel it would be smart, feel free to cancel your credit card. But only take that step after properly cancelling! |

I agree with rgnok, I would contest the charges on your credit card that were charged AFTER the date you ported. Make sure you put in the letter to Vonage the date you ported. |

Nope, that's how to stop paying for the service, not how to cancel it! |
