okay so I had vonage for bout a year, and I needed a new phone, i have a regular router with phone line out thing... After conteplating what phone to get at the store, i decided just to go with vtech IP 8100-2 this way i could connect the main router thing in the basement where my cable line is, and can get handset upstairs too without needing to bring it down stairs to re-charge and such... Okay so I bought it, the cd rom that came with it doesnt work... there is no manual, just phones/router thing, so I'm very confused how to set this thing up... I connect it instead of old router but it doesnt work that simply as i guessed... what do i need to do to switch, I tried searching on google but couldnt find anything cept this forum, thanks for help anyway

I'm confused too. If the cable is downstairs then how are you going to connect the new phone/router upstairs? Or are you?

In any case, the first thing you'll need to do is register the new IP phone with Vonage. This will enable service with it and disable service with your old adapter.

navydavy2001,

As always, nice assistance.

IsMaR,

Your intended setup sounds exactly like mine. I recently relocated my Comcast cable modem to the basement. My Linksys WRT54GX2 router is connected to it. I have two IP8100-2 phone adapters connected to the router in the basement, but my handsets are located in various locations throughout the house. I like the fact that the setup doesn't require any RJ11 phone cables. The only analog line at the moment is the dedicated fax line from an RTP300 phone adapter. Good luck with your new setup!
