Post subject: SB5120 and Comcast
I have had
Vonage
for over one year and it worked fine with my SB5100 with Cox. We recently moved about six months ago and after about three months with Comcast we started to have problems with latency in our calls. We could hear the other person but they couldn't hear us on our
Vonage
line. I have reviewed several suggestions for fixing the problem that seems to be consistent with comcast. I recently spoke with a level 2 tech support technician who suggested using an older modem. I couldn't find my SB5100 so I used my SB3100 from way back, oh my goodness, I had a 30 minute conversation with someone and no loss of audio signal. Also, I had run ping plotter with the SB5120 attached and had a consistent 8% failure from the modem which carried through to each router. Although I will admit Comcast still has a problem with a few routers having a high % of lost packets, typically around 20% on one router for me, this change has worked for me. I know that I struggled for the last two months with this and hope this information is helpful to someone else, there is something in how the SB5120 packages each packet that is seen as corrupted data by the Comcast routers. The level 2 tech told me that they were having similar problems with other SB5120's in our area and I would have to agree with him, way to go Motorola....
