I have been a Vonage cutsomer for over 2 years. I was using a Motorola phone adpater coupled with a router but then I decided to buy a Linksys RTP300 which is a wired router with a built-in Vonage phone adapter. The only reason why I got this device is too save space.
Anyway, I couldn't find the RTP300 at any store so I purchased if from someone on eBay. It has been used before.
So far, I can not activate this new device. I go to www.vonage.com/activate to do so but the WAN MAC address for the RTP300 is rejected.
The MAC address is: 0014BF2D2A20
and I get the following message:
The following error(s) occurred: The MAC address you entered is not a valid MAC address. Please enter it again. If you get this message again, please contact Vonage Customer Care at 1-VONAGE HELP or email us at customercare@vonage.com
I called Vonage tech support and I was told that I would need to contact the person I bought the device from and ask him to call Vonage to terminate his account. Otherwise, there is not much they can do for me. So I contacted the person that sold me the RTP300 and he told me that himself bought from someone else and can't remember who.
It looks like I am stuck. Is there anything I can do to get this thing to work?
If not, where can I find a working wired router / phone adapter?
Does Vonage still sell the RTP300 ?
Thank you so much for your help! |

So Vonage can not reactivate this device? That sounds ridiculous. |

Well, if they can they won't. |

Sounds to me like eBay may be able you get a refund from the person you purchased the unit from. If the person that you bought the RTP300 from knew that it would not work with Vonage and made false representations about it (and it sounds like they may have (see bolded quote above)), then eBay may help you get your money back that seller. Try the issue resolution section in eBay. Best of luck! |

Yeah, I agree. Read his description from the auction (or better yet, give US the link) and if you can prove it was false pretenses, take your issue to SafeHarbor. If you used Paypal, that's even better. I think you can get the money back. |

Thanks for the help. I bought the item for $10 only so no big deal. The auction listing doesn't say much.
See:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9726424570&
It is only AFTER i got the item that the seller told me it had been used before. I am not sure if he was aware that it can't be used a second time. I didn't know myself. I wish I had checked this forum before and had verified that the MAC address was valid. |

Trust me, he knew!
But as you indicated, $10 is a cheap lesson. |

If you want your money back, i would use the thinking that Vonage will not allow people to reactivate other people's devices, and this is well known, and in the terms of service that the seller should have signed. Therefore, he knew about it, and passed the buck to you, without disclosing that you couldn't use it with Vonage. I think it'll be a strong case. |
