What is access point? |
Are you using the utility that came with the wireless card?
Access Point, in that case, basically means that you are connected to a wireless router. The other type of network would be peer-to-peer, which would mean you were connected to the wireless card of another computer.
And I'm still hoping other people will chime in with something that is actually helpful! (unlike my attempts) |

I am putting the netgear back into the box and going to return it today. Oh well, now I am back with crappy wifi but at least its working. Quick question, which one is better? Wireless router in the basement and puter on main floor or vice versa for reception? |

This looks like you have 2 routers set to use the same IP address range. You indicate that the Netgear has an address of 192.168.1.X. That is also the normal default range for the Vonage adapter. I would recommend changing the IP address of the Netgear to 192.168.2.X (or anything other than 1). If the ranges are different, then the routers will have an easier time figuring out what is supposed to go where. |

Hi, I’ve had the same issue with my Voip Adapter. I have an NETGEAR WNR834B (“N technology), one desktop and an HP Notebook. After spending two nights with “customer service” I could not connect the notebook to the internet. At some point, I could not connect anything to the internet. The customer service is not aware of Voip Adapters working with their routers. So, I decided to reset the modem and to do the job again. My configuration: - 1 cable modem - 1 Voip Adapter - 1 NETGEAR WNR834B Router
Steps: - TURN OFF ANY FIREWALL, ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE - disconnect all your cables (Ethernet, USB, etc.) from all your devices, even if you will not receive any calls for about 30 minutes (you still have their voice mail). - Connect your modem to your desktop computer using an Ethernet cable (this is important, to have setting process with an wired computer, in this case your desktop) - Check for an internet connection - You MUST have an internet connection - If you do not have, shut down your computer, turn off your cable modem , restart the cable modem and restart your computer (check again for internet connection) - Once you have an internet connection, follow the steps from the CD - After you finish with setting your Wireless Router and you can access the internet from DESKTOP, you can plug the phone adapter into the Ethernet connections from your wireless router. - For notebook, use the wizard from Windows in order to create a Wireless Network Connection (use the same security as from your Router) - Restart your notebook to see if you can connect to internet. - For future maintenance: do not log in to the router from your wireless notebook….you will lose the connection and the setting are not changed. (use advanced settings in order to add your Notebook MAC to “Wireless access card list” on the Router. I have to wait about 2-3 minutes in order my notebook to connect to internet….. Good luck Dan |
