I had 2 Linkys routers with Vonage until now, never had a problem with either one, now I got the Motorola 2442 when I get the dial tone and press any key I hear a low Humming static noise that stays there the whole time even when the call connects, It's low but annoying to me. They sent a new router, same problem. has any one else had this problem can it be fixed or is it just the 2442? |

I have the same problem with the VT2442. I thought it was the service and not the router. But I now know of three routers that have this problem. Maybe I'll just live with it. It's not worth being on the phone to some idiot for 2 hours. It just takes me one step closer to leaving Vonage. |

These low 60HZ hums sometimes come thru poorly filtered power supplies. many routers use a wall wart (power pack or AC adopter) to step the wall AC voltage down to what the router uses usually low voltage AC or DC. To save on cost a half wave retifier may be used. This doesn't filter the power supply as well as a full wave retifier would. Therefore it will let a hum thru. If this is the problem then the fix is to get a better power supply that will filter the hum. It must output the same voltage and polarity must be the same. You may go higher in the MA or AMPS but not lower. |

Agreed, but I would also be interested in knowing if house wiring is involved. House wiring can pick up a lot of 60 Hz.
If it really is a power supply issue- and I agree it probably is- a big capacitor could help. Of course, that means getting a little creative with some tools. If the rectifier is inside the VT2442, then I'm afraid folks are out of luck. |

It's not the wiring, I tested both the lynksys and motorola on the same phone. the problem is the motorola, if its the adaptor, I may just get a lynksys with the lynksys adaptor |

That's pretty definitive, but have you tried plugging a phone directly into the VT? It could be that the Motorola and the Linksys react differently to wiring-induced hum. |

Yes I have Verizon service on the same phone, clear as a bell. |

I have the Vt2442 and I don't have the hum. Not sure if it helps at all but I have the Vt2442 plugged into a UPS. And I'm using a Uniden 2.4 ghz cordless. Going on 2 months now and no hum.

try to plug your phone into a verizon line and compare it. It's a soft hum, not too loud, but I don't like it. |

Was this directed at me? I'd really love to help you but I don't know anyone right now with Verizon service or I would try it for you. I still have just a basic dialtone with SBC (now AT&T, darn it) in order to keep my DSL service. Also so my Replay TV unit can call out every night.
