PostPosted: Sat Jun 17, 2006 11:56 am    Post subject: 3 second fast-busy sound before solid dial tone Reply with quote Back to top

Does anyone else hear a "fast-busy" type of sound when they first pick up the phone which lasts 3 seconds before they finally receive a normal dial tone? It doesn't seem to affect phone operation (i.e., I can start punching in the dialing number during this 3 second window before I get the solid dial tone and the call does go through). Its been like this all along during the 2 weeks I've had Vonage and it just sounds strange (actually annoying would be more accurate description!).

So wondering if this is normal, abnormal, of if anyone has had it cured through a call to customer service? Thanks.

welcome to the high tech world of stutter tone voicemail notification.
http://vonage.com/features.php?feature=voicemail
and keep in mind, Vonage often includes the extra feature of improperly working stutter tone notification that won't go away after listening to and/or deleting your voicemail. if you experience this, post back.

Thanks. Deleted the voicemail and its gone. I should have thought of that.

The family voted and wants to keep using our "old fashioned" voice message system so we can see on the red LED of the number of messages when we walk in the the door as opposed to using Vonages voice mail. So there were some test messages I left myself on Vonage (and I hadn't disabled vonages voice mail yet since we're still in our "evaluation phase" running w/ 2 parallel phone systems).

I have exactly this problem but am not using Vonage voicemail - it is disabled in the web interface - I have even checked by dialing *123 and it confirms there are no messages. I have had this stutter tone for a very long time and it would be nice to get rid of it.

I have a seperate line hosted on the same RTP31P2 and it does not have the problem

Any ideas?

I would probably just mess around with it. reenable it, leave self message, delete message, always use * to exit voicemail, disable it again, etc etc and check to see if it goes away between each step.

And if none of that works, a call to Vonage customer service <shudder> might.

You probably know this already, but there are phones on the market with built-in "voicemail indicator" lights. They work just fine for me with Vonage's voicemail, and with Verizon voicemail before that. Like you, I can't imagine not having that red light to remind me to check messages when I walk in the door, otherwise I'd probably forget. (I also set up a rule to forward the voicemail e-mail notifications to my cell phone, so I'll know right away there's a message, and I'll even see the incoming number.)
