Has anyone else experienced a problem completing intrastate or geographic specific toll free calls, 800,866, etc.? If so, has Vonage been notified?

After making a call several times, and receiving messages to the effect the number dialed was not available in my area, I called it on my cell phone. The call then went through fine. It appears to me that Vonage is accessing the land line, for call completion, out-of-state and not in the immediate locale; thus the problem. I am located in Wichita, KS.

This is a known problem.

The best solution is to try and find a regular number to call.

from what i heard,if that is a local toll free number, then Vonage cannot really access it, they can only access national toll free numbers with their system...

Thanks arcking.

If I were on the Unlimited Plan your suggestion would have merit. I hate to use my minutes when a toll free number is available.

Vonage needs to go off-net with toll free calls in the subscriber's locale. I suspect they route all toll free calls to an off-net access point where they have plenty of lines and/or little activity. If the off-net access point just happens to be within your state, and the 800 subscriber has intrastate only service, your call goes through.

I guess we will have to wait and see what Vonage is going to do, if anything.

That is a problem. Many have the Unlimited Plan, so they need not worry.

Last I heard all the calls were routed through NJ, and thus showed as from NJ. So I guess those customers in NJ can call their regional 800 numbers.

According to the Vonage website, it's national.

I've heard they have been having this problem in Canada regularly. If you are in Canada and email to questions@vonage.ca they add the 800# to their "list" and it starts working immediately. I don't see why someone from the US couldn't email a US number to be added. Worth a try.
