If you ever need to reset your VT2442 to factory defaults and you have lost your userid and password for the device.

The following worked for me:

Whie the VT2442 is powered up, hold the reset button for 90 seconds.

Unplug the device for 1 minute.

Power it up.

I was able to get back in with Userid: router, Password: router

I changed the LAN IP on my VT2442 to what I thought was 192.168.1.3 to match the rest of my network's subnet. But afterward I couldn't get back into the GUI or ping that IP. The phone still works fine but I REALLY what to get into the VT so that I can configure it.

I tried using your suggestion regard resetting it to factory defaults so that I could log in using the 192.168.15.1 address but it doesn't appear to have that address since I can't connect to the GUI or ping that IP. The really weird thing is if I plug my PC directly into one of the VT2442 LAN ports and get assigned an IP via DHCP I ended up with a 129.254.60.x IP.

Did you unplug the VT2442 while still holding the reset?
Did you plug the VT2442 back in while holding the reset?

Thanks!

I initially had problems with a VT2442, but it turned out to be a faulty adapter. I replaced it with a VT1005 which has been working great. I'm not sure if this will help, but:...

In order to get back in to the GUI configuration screen you have to make sure that your computer's IP is set to 192.168.15.xxx (xxx = any number besides the one for the adapter), then try to log into the VT2442's log in at "http://192.168.15.1" to make your adjustments. If it asks, I think you use "router" and "router" for the username and password.

Make sure that your adapter's DHCP is enabled and your computer is set to dynamically get its IP once you are finished. Even though your computer IP will be something "wierd" the configuration screen address will stay the same.

Good luck.

The problem I have is that the VT2442 doesn't appear to be at 192.168.15.1 anymore. I tried to change it to 192.168.1.3 and it appeared to take the change but I can't access it at either IP so I'm hoping there is a way to reset it back to factory defaults (192.168.15.1) without being able to access the GUI. Every other router I've dealt with has a way to do that (Linksys, D-Link and Netgear). It's usually a combination of powering up and down while hitting or holding the reset. It's usually described in the manual but the 2442's manual doesn't mention it.

make sure that your computer's IP is set to 192.168.15.xxx (xxx = any number besides the one for the adapter), then access the adapter at 192.168.15.1 with your browser.

I've done that but apparently the adapters IP is no longer 192.168.15.1. It should now be 192.168.1.3 as I had changed it to that but that doesn't work either. And yes, I set my pc IP to 192.168.1.x when I tried to connect to the adapter and that subnet. Hence the reason I want to set it back to the default 192.168.15.1.

192.168.1.x or 192.168.15.x ?

You may have a faulty adapter. I had that problem before and couldn't get past it. Ended up having to replace it.

My PC was 192.168.1.x when I tried to connect to the adapter at 192.168.1.3 and my PC was 192.168.15.x when I tried to connect to the adaper at 192.168.15.1.

Did you call Vonage to have them replace it?

Thanks!

Actually, no. I was fortunate that I figured it out within the first 30-days, so cancelled, returned it to them, and started over. Then I got a VT1005 from Circuit City which has been working great... so far. Smile

However, you might have to get a replacement from them.

Solved!

I searched for the reset procedure for other Motorola routers and found that holding the reset buttom down for 10 seconds while the unit is powered up forces it to reboot and go back to factory defaults.

I did that, got back in and tried setting the LAN IP to 192.168.1.1 but had the same problem getting back into it (yes I changed the PC's IP to 192.168.1.x). So I gave up changing the VT2442s LAN IP, set it back to default (192.168.15.1) and changed the rest of my network to 192.168.15.x and got everything running. This time I put the VT2442 after the cable modem and before my wireless router. I changed the wireless router to act as only a wireless access point.

This seems to have fixed the problems I was having with Vonage. I'm able to run bittorrent with out affecting the phone and my Caller Id seems to be working now.

Thanks!
