From Bloomberg:
"``It is increasingly apparent that Vonage is struggling to drive subscriber growth following the IPO,'' Greenfield said in a note to clients today, after he called the company to cancel his Vonage service and was offered a service plan for $19.99 a month, $4.99 less than the price for new customers. So call Vonage and threaten to cancel! It's only $5 savings per month, but let's get something out of this financial fiasco. |

From another VOIP forum:
Vonage now offers a 100 minute plan via their cancellation department for $9.99 and it includes all features. |

The new TV add also advertises unlimited service for $19.99 for the first 6 months.
I don't know how long this is out, but I saw the commercial myself last night. |

Vonage is now also offering a second line for no activation fee and no charge for the first 2 months. |

My bill just went up. I've always been on the $14.99/500 minutes plan. With taxes, my monthly bill was around $15.85. I got my bill last month, and it was $19 and change. I thought I may have used more than 500 minutes, but instead I see this extra $3 - $4 in 'federal regulatory fees'. When was that announced I'd start paying these crappy-ass fees? |

I'd say you got ripped off. My Regulatory Recovery Fee for my last bill (June 14th) was $0.99. FET, which will go away in August, was $0.51. Are you sure that some of that wasn't sales taxt that 21 states began requiring Vonage to pay? |

I called Vonage to cancel. It worked like a charm. I now am being charged $19.99 for unlimited.
To my suprise though I got a email stating that I was charged $9.99 for an activation fee. The Account Specialist said nothing about this. I emailed them back to find out why they did this.
On the customer service front things were better than some have reported. I only waited about a minute to talk to the person who must have been in India. After talking with him for a minute he transferred me to an account specialist. This wait was only 5 minutes.
It will be very interesting to see what happens to Vonage going forward. They may get sued and price war'd to death. I hope not. |

You're right. Looks like I'm getting hit with a bunch of local taxes now:
Residential Basic 500 (07/Jun-06/Jul) $14.99
Regulatory Recovery Fee $0.99
Emergency 911 Cost Recovery $0.99
Sales Tax $1.25
Federal Excise Tax $0.52
County 911 Fee $0.50
Total Amount $19.24 |

Now that they have one heck of a lot more money to lose,
working on gaining subscribers makes sense. And let's not
forget about keeping subscribers, particularly those who
participated in the IPO. If they cut my bill $5, I'll be whole
in less than 20 years. There's a reason to stay a customer! |
