How do I upgrade the firmware on the WRTP54G. (present version is 1.00.62) I need to see if upgrading resolves some LAN issues including slow, initial, internet access. I downloaded file wrtp54g-3.1.14.bin from the Linksys site but there is no firmware upgrade provision on the modem administration. Anybody knows how this is supposed to work.
Thanks

The way it's supposed to work is that Vonage updates it automatically. I believe 1.00.62 is the latest.

There have been instructions posted in this forum for manually upgrading using firmware that you've gotten somewhere. You'll have to do a search if you want to try it, but I think you're already up to date.

Try this thread:

http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic14565.html

It has instructions about how to update your firmware and how to force a firmware update if it doesn't happen automatically.

I don't recommend you mess with firmware that isn't provided by Vonage. If you load original Linksys firmware on your WRTP54G, you're going to end up with a brick.

Thanks everybody for taking the time to reply. Looks like I better leave it alone or go back to my Netgear router with the Linksys/Vonage behind it.

You'd think there'd be a simple table posted some place with the model and most recent firmware revs. Anyone seen such a thing? Seems stilly for customers to have to ask each other...

Yep, you'd sure think that. The first thing I did was go to the Vonage FAQ to look for such info but it was nowhere to be found. Then I came to these forums and got my answer within a few searches.

I'm finding that Vonage is notorious for having a low I.Q. FAQ. I'm no genius or MENSA member, but I can more than get by with computer hardware and software. So, when I go to an FAQ I'm looking for substance, not what's already in the User's Guide.

What's even more irritating is when I pick up the phone to call Customer Care from Vonage or any other company, the LAST THING I WANT IS FOR WHOEVER'S ON THE OTHER END IS TO READ ME THE FAQ. If I'm calling, it's because I'm well past the user's guide and the FAQ and need some real help, not a scripted answer.

I think it would be real cool if companies would hide a tier 2 Customer Service phone number in their FAQs. Then, if you've looked in the FAQ, you know whatever low-level answers there are and now you've earned the right to get better help.

Why can't I put $UCK$ in this forum?

As mentioned before, you can go to:
http://192.168.15.1/update.html (<---- default ip)
to go to the firmware upgrade page of your router.
username: user
password: tivonpw

Now, on the linksys website, they have an updated firmware for the WRTP54G-NA - Wireless-G Broadband Router with 2 Phone Ports and it is version number 3.1.17 with the release date of 7/12/2006. I tried upgrading to this firmware but for some reason, it will not complete it. Is it perhaps that we don't have the NA version of the WRTP54G? Have anyone else tried to upgrade this version of firmware to their WRTP54G and get it to work? I'm hoping that this new firmware version will have the WPA2-PSK encryption available for increase in wireless security. After all, they are a division of Cisco now and they are always on top of their game as far as network security goes.

If this firmware upgrade doesn't provide the WPA2 standard, does anyone know if they will ever have one for the WRTP54G or does WPA2 require a totally different hardware in order to provide the processing power fast enough for the higher encryption standards of WPA2?

Normally, your Vonage device will be upgraded to the latest firmware automatically whenever Vonage comes out with a new version. Most people do not need to do a manual upgrade.

The current firmware release for the WRTP54G is 1.00.62, at least that is what I am running. If you already have 1.00.62, then don't mess with it. You may want to try a factory reset to clear out the NVRAM and get the unit to a known-good configuration, that may or may not help with any problems you may be experiencing but it can't hurt.

If you do decide, for whatever reason, that you need an upgrade, then I have consolidated all the information I've seen on doing an upgrade and put it in one place for easy reference.

WRTP54G and RTP300 complete upgrade guide: http://vonage.nmhoy.net/upgrade.html

My article uses firmware versions from the Vonage web site, so they are official Vonage firmware images. I do not recommend using ANY firmware you do not get directly from the Vonage web site, as it violates the Vonage Terms of Service.

The most recent version I have links for is 1.00.60, but the point of my article is to get people past the "bad" upgrades (around 1.00.20 and 1.00.29) and up to a more recent firmware release so the Vonage automated firmware updater can take it from there.
