Post subject: What is the best way to port number - online or CSR?
I'm ready to port my exisiting Verizon based number over to
Vonage
. What is the best way to go about doing this? Should I file online or over the phone? Which way is the fastest?
Now, is it possible to retain my current
Vonage
assigned number and transfer it to a new
Vonage
line (line two), then have my Verizon number be ported to line one? I would want to end up with 2 lines total, both on one
Vonage
adapter (RTP300).
Thank you for your help!

Your 2nd question's easy. Yes. You'll pay for 2 lines. Reassigning lines to a rtr port can be done 'as-u-wait' by CS.
Doing it online would be faster, no hold times. Plus, you'll be sure (I hope so!) there will be no mistakes. BUT, you can ask questions about the eLOA to a CS rep - there may be language in the form that you may be unsure about. I used to work there, so I'd do it online. IF I got
Vonage
, which I simply won't do out of spite (yeah, cutting off my nose......)

Alright,
So I called up Verizon today and asked if they had any problems with porting my number over. They said no, everything would go smoothly. The rep tried to get me to stay, but after I explained what
Vonage
was giving me she actually said "We cannot top that".
So I then called up
Vonage
level 2 tech support and got a very helpful USA based person on the other end. He knew what he was talking about and was easy to understand. He switched my ports around and added a Fax line on line two. Line one is now my main line with a temp number assigned to it. He even filed to have my Verizon number ported. I got an email a couple minutes later, signed it, and sent it back. Let's see how long the number port takes.
How to I see the progress of the number transfer online?

On the Web Accoubt: 'Check existing number transfer status'. Most of the time it'll show 'Transfer sent to carrier'.

I found it!
Here is what it says:
Updated Date: Number Transfer Progress History: Required Action
June 14, 2006 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
June 14, 2006 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
June 14, 2006 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Accepted
June 14, 2006 Transfer Sent to Carrier
Is this good? Does it indicate that things are moving quickly already?

Doesn't indicate that much - this part ALWAYS goes well as it's just you and
Vonage
interacting. The potential issues arise druing the 'transfer sent...' stage. This is the period that can become the black hole - the interplay between
Vonage
, 3rd party (Focal, etc.) and your current carrier begins. . Just call CS every week or 2, preferably at an off-hour (like Sunday Morning, nil hold time), just to touch base.
Again, gool luck, and beware the 'escalation' if you have issues....SUCH a non-help.

Here it is:
Current Status: Transfer Completed
Transfer Date: June 21, 2006
Updated Date: Number Transfer Progress History: Required Action
June 14, 2006 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
June 14, 2006 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received

June 14, 2006 Transfer Sent to Carrier
June 20, 2006 Carrier Approved Transfer
June 21, 2006 Completed LNP Transfer
That was fast!!!! So much for 20 days. 8 days total!!!!
I'm done correct? There is nothing else I need to do besides hook my
Vonage
adapter up to my new wiring inside my home and disconnect Verizon.

Yep, you be done!! Glad to hear it went well. Just realize that while the actual transfer sg=hould be seamless, there CAN be an interruption. Sometimes it's not a direct handoff and there's a time gap between the dropping by your current carrier and Vonage's pickup.
Shouldn't be a biggie, though. Plus, the VN (usually) remains 7 days after the xfr, so you won't be SOL if problems arise.
