Hello. I have been using a standard Vonage issued PAP2 with my router without any problem for the past 8 months. However, I recently changed from the standard PAP2 device to the Motorola VT2442 because of its QoS function. Everything seemed to be working great: crystal clear calls regardless of what I'm doing on the computer. However, I have one major problem now.

I cannot surf certin websites such as MSN, Hotmail, or check banking statement at Citibank. When I type in the URL and press enter / or click on a link leading to sites such as these, it shows in the bottom of the browser (using hotmail as an example) "Connecting to hotmail.com" then "Waiting for login.live.com" then "Transferring data from login.live.com," and thats it. Just a blank white page and the page does not load. Some websites I can view after much delay: the browser pauses at the transferring data screen for about a minute, and then loads the page. Others, such as hotmail.com, I cannot view at all.

I have, additionally, noticed an overall sluggishness in the speed of browsing. Overall download speed has not decreased at all, as measured by benchmark tests. However, the transition time in between loading pages, transfering to new sites, has increased significantly.

i think there is some kind of problem with the NAT feature on the VT2442. I initially thought there was a problem with the routing feature on the VT2442. So I disabled the router on the VT2442 and connected my existing D-Link router to the VT2442 (that is, behind the VT2442) and connected my computers to the D-Link. However, I still am experiencing the same problem. In either setup, I can't seem to get around using the NAT feature on the VT2442. So, it seems to me that it it might be the source of my problem.

Is anyone experience this same problem, or know of the solution to it? Are then any firmware updates available for this?

Just an Idea, try to connect your PC directly from your Modem and see if you will be experiencing the same problem. If "Yes" It means that the problem lies with your Operating System, Probably it is infected with some Trojan virus or Spyware that causing some webpage to be redirected to another or to a blank page.

Or Microsoft could be down temporarily... or the backbone connecting them to Japan could be down...

Have you tried these sites with and without in quick succession to prove that it is the router's fault?

When I revert to the following configurations:

modem - > router -> computer
modem - > computer

i can surf all websites without any problem. I'm having this problem with many other sites other than just Microsoft's.

I have the VT2442 adapter/router but do not use the router portion. I find that my Vonage phone service works great with the VT2442 installed behind my LinkSys modem/router/wap device. I'm guessing that the QOS is limiting the traffic to the router ports. Maybe there are user setups in the VT2442 that will help you balance the amount of bandwidth provided to the router ports versus the Vonage adapter...

I looks like the problem is the VT2442...and probably a set up versus a hardware or firmware issue. AT least given your limited testing with it and without it in the stream.

Jimbofish, it may be a DNS issue. Take a look at this thread.

Thanks all for your replies, but I still have the same problem.

booma: I don't think its an issue with the QoS. I am still downloading at similar speeds from bittorrent, ftp, www. My problem is that certain pages simply don't load. The browser message says "waiting for yyy.site" or "transfering from zzz.site" and ultimately it says that the "connection to the server was reset"

Steve48: thanks for sending me that link. I went through the lists of tests that were suggested. I changed the patch cable, cloned my PC's MAC address, to no avail. I can't seem to find a way to disable the DNS proxy on the VT2442 unit itself. So, I found my ISP's DNS servers using the method described, and changed the DNS settings on my PC from the router, 10.0.0.1, to my ISP's DNS servers 143.90.130.39 and 165. But I still have the same problem.

I could disable all features of the VT2442, using it simply as I did the PAP2, and place it behind my router. However, doing so would totally defeat the purpose of why I bought the VT2442 in the first place! Sad

I am using the VT2442 with DSL and 2 computers connected to the VT2442. My connection is:

DSL Modem-->VT2442-->Uniden 2.4 cordless,computer1,computer2

I have no problem at all accessing those web pages that you listed. I see no slow down in browsing or in downloads. QOS is enabled. I think you either have a problem with your computer or maybe your VT2442 is defective. Hope this helps.

I'm having similar issues since I inserted the vt2442 into my chain. I have:

Comcast cable modem -> vt2442 -> Airport Express.

I didn't have any issues when I was simply:

Comcast cable modem -> Airport Express

I'd love to know what the issue is (I'm not so network savvy)
