when i go on an extended trip.. what my best bet?

Do i grab my Vonage router and it with me?

I am going to Canada and I live in the US. dunno if this makes a difference.. just wondering if i can go where im going, plug in and then i get all my calls.

with Vonage for my laptop i have to have the laptop up and running all the time to actually receive my call? let me know

or should I just try Softphone?? Is soft phone the primary Vonage number or not and do I have limited minutes or unlimited like my Vonage line?

as i said for me personall i use the simuring feature....

as long as you can get an internet connection to your Vonage box it should work....

but if your doing it from a hotel or and office setting there is a chance it might be blocked at the firewall.

Softphone is not your primary number (assigned a different telephone number), and you have 500 outgoing minutes and incoming calls are no charge.

I believe that what's best is to use a cell phone when traveling! Possible exception would be if your going visiting with someone you know has HS Internet and are going to stay a while!

any of those are okey!

if you want to bring your Vonage device
all you need is only a pc, phone, and a broadband ethernet

you can also forward your calls directly to your mobile
but the thing is,,
what if it happends that there is a power shortage in your house and you need to re-boot your system??? and your not in the country? well, you cant use it anymore right?!

softphone is also okey
all you need is a computer and a broadband ethernet
(the computer should have downloaded the softphone program)

make your choice!!!

Forwarding you Vonage calls to another number...like your cell phone has nothing to do with your phone adapter being connected to your home network. The forward takes place on Vonage's network. With forward calls, you will pay Vonage minutes -- if you have an unlimited plan this is meaningless.

If you are staying for an extended time -- certainly more than just a few days, bring your phone adapter. The worst that will happen is it won't work, but you will still have your calls forwarded to your cell phone -- or your network availability number.

Once you are in Canada, you can always log onto your Vonage account page -- any computer with access to the web -- and set call forwarding to any number you want.

I guess it would depend on how long a trip you planned. Usually when I travel to the US, I take my adapter with me. Paying roaming on a cell isn't always pretty.

Although last time at the border, I was questioned extensively as to, "why do you have a phone in your trunk?"

Honestly, as long as you figure you can get broadband access, I'd take the adapter.
