we have been through hell and back with my parents setup of Vonage as they were unable to transfer the number from Comcast to Vonage, claiming the number could not be found (coming from Vonage's Third party telco. ) This ordeal went on for 2 months with at least 20-25 hours on the phone with Vonage buffoons at customer service. So we give up and decided to cancel.

1. If you cancel in the first 30 days and return the equipment within 14 days of cancellation the $39.99 disconnect fee is waived.

There's no risk to trying Vonage service. Our hassle-free Money Back Guarantee policy guarantees your satisfaction. If for any reason you wish to cancel service within 30 days of purchase, we'll refund your money with no questions asked.

Terms of Money Back Guarantee:

You must cancel your service within 30 days of the activation of your account.
You must not exceed 250 minutes of usage in the first 30 days of service.
If you exceed 250 minutes, you will not be refunded for the first month of service.
You must return your equipment within 14 days of your cancellation
.

2. If you cancel in days 31-90, you owe the $39.99 disconnect fee and have to return the equipment otherwise you are charged $99.99 for the equipment. This info is from an extended conversation with a Vonage rep.

here, have a look at evidence for point 2

Yes. Vonage will apply a $39.99 disconnect fee to each line that is cancelled within one year of being activated. If you cancel within the Money Back Guarantee period of 30 days and return your device within 14 days of your cancellation, the disconnect fee will be refunded.

Note: The rebate instant credit is cancelled and you will be charged for the balance of the price of the equipment, if you disconnect Vonage service between the end of Money Back Guarantee period and 90 days of service.

3. If you cancel in days 91 to 1 year you are still charged a $39.99 fee and you keep the equipment at no charge to you.

4. If you cancel after 1 year you are not subject to a disconnect fee and you keep the equipment.

For some people it is a good deal, for others, pure hell and aggravation, something which my elderly parents surely don't need.

I'd say if you are tech savvy and don't mind long waits and poorly trained csrs and have a LOT of patience, go with Vonage. Otherwise, stick with the good ole land line.

Heh Heh. Well since no one else wants to reply I will.

First I agree with your point of poor CSR's. They are slightly worst then the one's I experienced at Altell (my old land line company).

I understand your frustration.

But you hardly need to be tech savy to have Vonage. I've had Vonage since last December and I'm quite pleased. I had to give up my old home phone number and could not keep it as Vonage said. A pia for sure, but well worth the main reason I switched: Savings. Cool

Also the fact that the press has been reporting increases in land line phones is a joke. Vonage may not be perfect but it is value and for most of us it works.
