Here it is. I have two Vonage lines. My one Ive had for 18 months with my home area code here in Ohio of course. Well Vonage offered me to do the beta testing with the new VWR. So, I used a Texas area code, because I have a friend in Texas I talk to. So...question is....when I call that person in Texas, from ohio, with a Vonage texas area code number...will my call show up as being from Ohio, or Texas?

OK, how did I miss what a VWR is?

Anyway if your new number is a separate line it will have its own caller id information. If it is set up as a virtual number then the caller id information from your primary line will be shown.

It sounds as if this WVR is a separate line, if so the caller ID information will be shown as from Texas.

Thanks..Vonage has a new wireless router out. The d-link VWR. Its not too bad, havnt had any problems with it. So i have two routers with Vonage, and a third with my ISP of course. Basically for testing out the router I get a free month of service from Vonage. So sweet, the calls should show up from being made from Texas then. Thanks, any other info is appreciatted.

There are some other posts on this forum that discuss how calls from a Vonage line show up on caller ID's. In my case, my home phone (In Mass) shows up as a Manhattan number on my work caller ID. Back when I had Verizon, my work caller ID showed my home phone number, now with Vonage I get some strange off the wall Manhattan number.

Sounds me like that should not be the case. I was explained to me that the Vonage call to a POTS phone leaves Vonage's network at some point to finish the call to the POTS. I assumed for the case I described above that point was somewhere in Manhattan and that's why my number from home shows up wrong at work.

What am I missing?

It actually shouldn't matter where your call leaves the Internet and gets carried over the PSTN. When a call orginates the phone number (your phone number) is carried along with the signalling information for the call.

Vonage provides the equipment to convert from the Voip SIP protocol to the PSTN SS7 protocol. It is the responsibility of this equipment to make sure that your call is configured with the correct outgoing information. If this is not happening Vonage should be able to fix it.

However, things work slightly different for toll free calls. Since the called party has to pay for the calls they are provided information that is different from the caller id number. In fact, they should be provided with the number where the call was transferred onto the PSTN. This can cause problems for regional or local toll free numbers as well as for large companies that route incoming toll free numbers based on this information.

The toll free thing must explain the issue. I think my wife is in the habit of calling our toll free number at work.
