OK, so we signed up with Vonage and I'm trying to set up my router with the Motorola VT1000 voice adapter.

I saw this thread and it seems this guy was having the same problem but that setup isn't working for me.

Before I had this setup and it was working well:

Wall - modem - WRT54G - VT1000...

But I found out that our calls were being dropped, so I had to hook up the terminal to the modem and then the router:

Wall - modem - VT1000 - WRT54G...

The phone works fine, but I have no Internet access with this new setup. And I don't wanna go back to the other setup since my calls were being dropped.

So I had the WRT54G set up as my gateway, so I switched it to Router under "Advanced Routing". I guess this is how you set up the router to work as a Wireless Access Point. Then under Basic Setup, I set it up to use as the local IP address for the router, that way there would be no conflicts (since before this change, the router was at and the VT1000 at

Also as it was suggested on that other thread, I turned off the DHCP server, and I switched the Ethernet cable hooked up from the VT1000 to the router, from the Internet port to one of the LAN ports on the WRT54G.

Even after all these changes, the phone works fine, but I got no Internet.

How do I set this up? And please keep in mind that I need to setup my router's settings and the wiring so that I can access my router's settings page through my wireless connection, AND also set up the IP address of my laptop manually through Windows.

Can anyone help me out here?

I don't know why your setup with the VT1000 plugged into the modem didn't work, but I think that other thread has gotten you balled up. If I were you I'd try to go back, and use DHCP throughout.

First, enable DHCP and DNS on the VT1000. Plug it into the modem. Make sure your computer is set up to get its IP dynamically, then plug it into the LAN port on the VT1000. If you get both phone and internet service at this point, we're ready to go on. If not, we need to troubleshoot this simplified setup.

If all that worked, set up the Linksys to get its IP dynamically, and also enable it as a DHCP server, then run a cord from the VT LAN port to the Linksys WAN port. Plug your computer into a Linksys LAN port. Do you get internet service now?

I'm gonna try that again but you must have not seen the part where I said that because of port forwarding issues and other family members with laptops, I need to have the same local IP every time.

So a dynamic IP address doesn't work for me.

Edit: it seems the problem was my firewall. I disabled my firewall and everything works. I'm using Outpost Firewall Pro 3.5 and I very recently upgraded to 3.51.

Everything's working now - I reset all the settings to what they used to be on the router. However there may be other issues, and I haven't enabled my firewall yet, so I still may have some problems.
