PostPosted: Tue Jun 06, 2006 9:37 am    Post subject: Dropped Outbound calls Reply with quote Back to top

Greetings

I've tried every troubleshooting tip in "Features" several times. But outbound calls still get dropped after 90-120 seconds - every time. It's been going on for over a week.

Location : Bangor, Maine
ISP: Adelphia Cable
1.5 - 3.5 Mbps
Modem: RCA DCM 315R
Adapter: Linksys RT P1 32
Adapter is plugged into switched port of Microsoft 802.11B wireless router. It won't work at all when plugged directly to modem, or between modem and router.

Vonage's speed test won't run - though my Java is all up to date.

Here's another I Googled:

Speed test statistics
---------------------
Download speed: 3106840 bps
Upload speed: 443840 bps
Quality of service: 96 %
Download test type: socket
Upload test type: socket
Maximum download pause: 51 ms
Average download pause: 11 ms
Minimum round trip time to server: 72 ms
Average round trip time to server: 142 ms

Voip test statistics
--------------------
Jitter you --> server: 6.3 ms
Jitter server --> you: 8.6 ms
Packet loss you --> server: 0.0 %
Packet loss server --> you: 0.0 %
Packet discards: 0.0 %
Packets out of order: 0.0 %
Number of supported Voip lines: 5
Estimated MOS score: 3.9

I've had it for 15 months with no problems at all. This test seems to point at a hardware issue. But what do I know?

I will try Walmart today for another adapter. (They're good about returns....)

Thanks.

pls try this, this might help you. pls contact your internet service provider and ask what DOCSIS are you currently using..because sometimes this can affect the call. if the DOCSIS is 1.1 or higher, you have the better one but if not ask them to provide you the higher versions.

if this wont work. try to simplify your setup. remove all the devices around your Vonage device and all the device connected into it (hus, switches routers). just connect it directly into the internet modem.

if this still dont work. adjust your bandwidth in your web account call the tech support and ask them to adjust your settings to the highest level(jitterlevel, codec and the packet size).

also, remove all electronic devices away from the router atleast 2 or more meters away (including the phone that you use)because this might interfere the signals inside the device.

still, if this wont work,if there is an available phone port on the Vonage adapter, then switch phone ports and inform the tech support so that they can change the settings also.

also, ensure all the wires are free of damages and the cables are firmly connected to the ports.

make sure that the device is well ventilated.

do not download anything or share files while using the phone because this might lessen the signals that is coming from the router.

in case this things wont work just inform me.
so that i could research again.

Thank you for your time. I can't call my ISP - no phone. But it was all fine for 15 months. Nothing has changed with my ISP.

Been there - done all of what you said - several times. I also forgot to mention that I now have the adapter in a DMZ.

I just bought another Vonage adapter, to troubleshoot the hardware end of it. But on opening the box, I read that I must call an 800 number in order for an existing customer to set it up.

How can I do that, if I don't have a phone???

I guess I'll have to declare my credit card stolen, in order to cancel my Vonage account, (since I can't call them) and then just get a cell phone with a good monthly rate.

I can change my Adelphia Cable to Verizon DSL, and save $20 a month. But I'll stay away from THEIR Voip!

Thanks for your answer. I wonder if some vengeful customer lost a lot of money on that IPO, and found some way to take revenge and sabotage Vonage?

Hi,

There is no need to call CS, you can register it online by choosing retail activation link and choose add a retail device to your acct. and follow the process/

If I could find such a link, I would click it. After much searching, I found a list of adapters to set up, but mine (PAP2) isn't on the list.

I then finally was able to find that I should go to "Vonage.com/activate" so I did. But I was informed that this place no longer existed.

No luck with Google, either.

There just is no "Activation" link on Vonage.com.

NEVER MIND - I found it. You have to log out first.

OMG - what a nightmare. I went throught the activation wizard and set up my new adapter.

Nothing.

I tried every configuration - new position, new cables, new phone cords, etc etc etc. All I get is a solid ethernet light, a blinking power light, and no phone light at all.

So I tried to set it up as it was before with my old adapter- at least then I could make 90 second phone calls out , and get incoming calls. But the activation wizard just told me that the MAC address which I have been using for 15 months is suddenly not valid.

Now I have no phone at all - not even for an emergency.

I just emailed CS and told them that if they did not cancel me right away, that I would notify the BBB and declare my credit card stolen.
.

It only works when it works. When it doesn't you're out of luck.

Of course, I remember when I moved in here, I was without a telephone for over 2 weeks, because someone in an office somewhere had given me a long distance phone number.

After $90 worth of calls on the cell phone I had then, it was finally a Verizon operator who informed me what the trouble was. Rolling Eyes

But wait!!! On the 7th reset, it suddenly started to work.

Wil it KEEP working???

We can only pray!

Thank you fro your help.

What an ordeal.... Confused (the router, cable, modem, etc are on the floor behind this big, heavy entertainment center, with no light, and the flashlight batteries just went.)

My guess is that when you registered the new adapter Vonage immediately discontinued service to the old one but took awhile to enable service to the new one. If that's the explanation, it should keep working.

Please let us know if the new adapter solves the problems you've been having.

OH! Please, pLease please let that be it!

It cost more than $30 in pay-as-you-go cell phone charges.

I don't suppose there's any guarantee on the first adpter? (It's 15 months old)

I simply have to move the router, etc to a more accessible place, and buy a decent flashlight.

Thanks!

Was the original adapter from Walmart? If so, they might agree to take it back. I doubt that there's any warrantee left on it if you got it from Vonage.

Don't forget to let us know if the new adapter fixes your problem.
