PostPosted: Mon Jun 05, 2006 3:39 pm    Post subject: Motorola VT1005 Router and signal splitter Reply with quote Back to top

Hi. I'm trying to attach a signal spitter to line 1 and it doesn't work.
Line 2 is already taken with a different number for my fax machine. Does anyone know how I can get the signal splitter to work so I can have both my phones connect to line 1 on the router? I was hoping I wouldn't have to buy two new wireless phones.

Thanks,
Howie

I want to use my two cordless phones via line one on the router.
The signal splitter yields no dial tone when I plug it into the router.
Can it be that this Motorola model does not allow the signal to be split no matter what I do? It's the VT1005.

Thanks,
Howie

Try a different splitter. It sounds like the one you are using is bad. Can't think of any other reason it wouldn't work.

Will do but I plugged this one into the wall and it was fine. Nada when plugged into the Motorola router.

Did you test both output ports when you plugged it into the wall and when you plugged it into the Vonage box? There are two types of splitters. There's a simple parallel splitter, which is the one you want. There's another to separate line 1 and line 2 from a standard two line wall plug. The output ports are labelled line 1 and line 2. One of the ports will work when you plug it into the wall and the other won't if you have only 1 line. Same when you plug it into the Vonage adapter.

Yes, I tried both output ports when I plugged it into the wall and it worked fine in both but when I plug it into the Vonage router, I get nothing from either port. I even jiggled it a little to see if I'd get the dial tone but I didn't.

The spiltter I have is a little plastic box with two ports right next to each other and on the other side is the male thingy that goes into the Vonage port. I bought it at Radio Shack a while back so I'll go over there with it to see what they come up with. Thanks for your thoughts.

I've had trouble with splitters before. Make sure it is seated fully in the Vonage box.
Or plug the splitter into your phone and run one wire from the Vonage box to it and another from the splitter to the other phone. That should cure the problem.

It sounds like you're doing all the right things but getting strange results. If it works in the wall it should certainly work in the Vonage adapter. I would guess that the connector on the splitter or the one on the adapter is just a bit out of spec and something isn't quite making contact. Let's hope it's the splitter.

I assume that you're using the same telephone and phone cord for all these tests. Is that correct?

I just got back from Radio Shack and got a replacement splitter at no cost. They were very nice over there. Anyway, I plugged it into the Motorola adapter/router and still no dial tone. I figured as much. My old splitter was fine. I'll contact Motorola next since Vonage couldn't help me.
