I understand the fundamentals of shorting a stock. My question, to those who are more financially savvy than I, I have read that there are regulations that state that in order to short a stock, the stock's last trade must have been an uptick or a zero plus tick. What does that mean in english? |

It means you can only short a stock after it has gone up. If a stock is continuously going down, you are not supposed to short it. You have to wait for the price to "uptick" before you can short it.
This is a NYSE policy that has not been practiced in quite a while. Hedge funds pretty much do whatever they like today. |
