Hi,
So I recently moved and Comcast only turned on one cable (for the tv). They now want $50 to turn on a cable in the second bedroom for the computer.
I figured that rather than pay that for the one year I will live here, I would go wireless instead. Currently, I have the following setup:
Comcast->Motorola Surfboard SB5120->Linksys RT31P2->Computer (Dell desktop)
I am getting these through a special deal for signing up with a third party for Comcast internet:
D-Link DCM-202 Cable Modem
D-Link WBR-1310 Wireless Router
I am also getting an adaptor for the computer.
The questions are:
1. Should I stick with my current Motorola modem or switch to the D-Link. Not sure which has a better rep.
2. Can I still use the Linksys RT31P2 router or do I need to use a standalone (such as the Linksys PAP2 convertor). If a standalone, any thoughts on where to get a decent deal for current Vonage customers?
3. If I can use my Linksys Vonage router, what will the order be?
Thanks for all your help.

I'd do it like this:
Cable Modem (Use the Surfboard, IMO)
to
Wireless Router
to Computer wirelessly
to RT31P2 Wired
If you begin having problems with slow downloads or choppy calls, find out if the wireless router has QOS or not and use it. If not, flop the two routers around, but be prepared to make some adjustments in the RT. Also, make sure you have DHCP enabled in only ONE of the routers, not both. |

Agreed. Also avoid 2.4 GHz cordless telephones now that you're going wireless. |

Thanks guys...I'll let you know how it goes in a week. Glad to hear that I don't necessarily need to purchase a new Vonage adaptor...
