My name never shows up. The phone number shows up where my name is supposed to be.

This is probably my single biggest complaint... even more than the lack of ACR. As other have said many people just ignore the call when the CID shows no name. The irony is that I do the saem most of the time...

While it might be funny to be able to call from "Moon Base Alpha" or som other such place, I would be fine with my actualy name, and a website option to set the caller ID to private all the time. Heck, I'd just settle for the name.

Then again, since I've have Vonage for this long, I guess they've figure out that I'd settle for, uhh... nothing.

There are many sites, services and devices that will spoof or block caller ID. Just do a google search.

Not to be too optimistic here, but isn't Vonage willfully stripping caller ID info to avoid this hole in VoIP. From what I've read (can't site, just recall) Vonage is harder to Spoof Caller ID on because no matter what your caller id starts as, it always ends up as "".

IMNAL, but I suspect that Vonage is probably Lawsuit weary, and trying to avoid litigation.

What they have implemented is the simplest way not to get sued. You either ensure without a shadow of a doubt that the caller ID string matches your billing records on all transmissions at each hop, or you simply set it to blank on all traffic.

Oh, for oddity.
I purchased vonage today, after weeks of comparing features, and this is the first time I've realized I don't have my name on the caller ID.. . When vonage told me I could block my name froms showing up by pressing *67 I thought that meant it showed up in the first place...
I love the voice quality and what not but this feature needs to happen!

Better still, let us change the outbound name at will on the website. A blank name is a good name as any other.

I agree. For my line I would like it to say "NSA" today, "CIA" tomorrow, "FBI" over the weekend and "IRS" all next week.

The following week I want it to switch between "CitiBank" and "Bank of America".

Then, to close the month out; "The White House", "Windsor Castle" and "The Vatican" might be cool.

Smile

How about, "Vonage, Customer Service".

No, no, no, that's moronic response. Simply let the user change between his registered name and blank, nothing else.

Of course, you can always add "multiple personalities" or "split personality" as your name.

I once asked BellSouth to change the name on mine from me to someone else living here. They said that they're only allowed to set it to the name on the bill, or to something like "Anonymous". Was this just BS? Are phone companies even allowed to put something like "rudedude89" or whatever else we want for it?
