It has been confirmed that we currently are having server issues with the test server.
Take all current test results with a grain of salt.
I will update this thread when this is corrected.
Thank you,
Sorry for the delay, this issue was fixed earlier today.
I have received the following memo from our programmers:
"Just an FYI that we have uncovered a Microsoft problem handling UDP which we have reported to them earlier today and awaiting their response. This is triggered by the download jitter test because the problem starts as soon as any UDP packet goes in both directions. Thereafter the timing increments uniformly to 500ms. The attached demonstrates just how pronounced and uniform the problem is."
I will post here with updates.

Thanks for that update!
It may also be worth mentioning that I have had something really strange happening with my PC after running the speed test. It is as if the test window is trying to refresh itself repeatedly. It takes so much CPU time, that the first time it happened I thought it had totally locked up Windows, but as it turns out, WIndows was just real slow.
It's happened on three occasions at this point...I'm not sure what the formula is. I have dual monitors with an extended desktop, and I have noticed that on rare occasions that causes strange things to happen with certain (typically lesser-known) softwares.

Post subject: Speed test down (again)?
Love this speed test, which proves how poor my cable service is. Just had a horrible, lossy, long-delay phone call (with the cable co, ironically) and wanted to run the test... won't go. Java starts then I get an 'X' in the corner of the box. I can post the console log if it'll help...
Cheers... Perry.

Well, I'm glad to hear that the test is reflecting someone's actual
Voip
experience Perry.
That has not proven to be true in my case. I think I'm going to give up on this particular test for a while.
Even if it is a "perfect" test, at some level, if it does not reflect the results that I am observing with real-world
Voip
conversations, then all it's doing is making me feel bad.

Well...I can only say that it remains inaccurate for me.
For example, just a moment ago, the new
Vonage
test showed my upload speed as only 100808 while the speed test at speakeasy.net was showing 471 kbps.
I ran the tests back to back, with two tries on each site, and the results were similar for a given site each time. The only difference is that the
Vonage
test shows the upload speed at one-fifth of the speakeasy test.
According to the
Vonage
test, the connection can only support one
Voip
connection, and yet, we were simultaneously using three lines just a little while ago.
I mean, I guess our internet connection could be mysteriously healing itself every time we use the phones, or acting up only when I am running the
Vonage
test, but what are the chances?

The likelihood here is that there is something between you and this test that is causing the problem. The only way I could see to prove/disprove of this is to try to find a Speakeasy speed test hosted in the same place as the forum test in an attempt to cross through the same equipment.
I think Dan said the test was hosted in Washington.
Also, if your provider is Speakeasy then you will need to use another test that leaves Speakeasy's network.

The speed test (not this site) is located just outside of Washington DC in the $53 Million Equinix Data Center in Ashburn VA.
This data center is also the home of hundreds of *.gov servers such as fbi.gov
Try a Tracert to this IP: 205.234.111.151 and see what you get.
