PostPosted: Thu Jun 01, 2006 11:00 am    Post subject: Issues Porting Existing Number from Level 3 Communications Reply with quote Back to top

The short story: I'm trying to port my number from Earthlink TrueVoice (number is at Level 3 Comm). I've been told by Vonage that the number is "unavailable for transfer". My understanding is that the block of numbers that my number is in is not on a list that Vonage can transfer. I spoke with someone last week that told me that Vonage can request that they be able to access that block of numbers, and that request has been made. (I've been unable to get back in touch with this individual)
At this point, I am unable to find anyone at Customer Support that is willing to continue to help with this process, seems to understand what I'm trying to do, understands what the issue is, or transfer me to someone that is in a position to help.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions or a "known good contact" with enough authority to help resolve my issue?

Using that link, I'm told that I CAN keep my number. However, when I check the option under the subscribe.vonage.com to keep my number, I'm told that LNP is unavailable for my number.
This seems consistent with what I've experienced when calling Customer Support -- One side of the mouth that's on the other end of the line says I can keep my number, and then when it comes down to starting the LOA process, the other side of the mouth says I can not. I'm convinced that it's technically possible to move the number from Level 3 to Vonage, I've judt not yet encountered anyone from Vonage that is willing to take the issue on, follow through, and make sure that it get's done. I've even tried the route of threatening to cancel my service (and in fact have cancelled a previous account with them for this very reason for this same issue with the same number), to no avail.

Dude, I am in the same exact boat as you. I am currently with Verizon Voicewing and being ported over to Vonage. Verizon is a big Level3 customer and I have not been able to port this number over since January. What a freakin pain in the a$$. Now I find this post and it appears I am not alone. The last time around my number was missing and almost lost, Vonage was able to tell me that the number was stuck at Level3 but still could not do anything. This time I have told Vonage that they should port the number over from Level3 and I am on hold waiting to speak to the escalation department as we speak. I will keep you posted...

Called level3 directly - here is the number 866-697-5881, then option 1. I found out that my number will be ported in a few more days.
