I just got my Vonage package, and I have hooked it up as documented.
Cable Modem -> Vonage Box -> Linksys Router -> Rest of my PC's
Is this the best way to do this? I only have the 1 IP address, and noticed that the Vonage box gets it. My Linksys router now has a non-routable IP.
Everything seems to be working fine now. Is there a reason to change anything?
Thanks, Rob |

A firmware update sort of fixed that but when it happens, you lose internet connectivity however phone will still work. Still, it necessitates a reboot of the moto box. And your router, and your PC et cetera. |
I actually had to reboot everything this morning, probably for this reason. Comcast has always been agressive with their port polling. I shall move it behind my firewall, and see what happens.
Does the Moto box have a web interface? Anything in there that I need to configure?
Thanks, Rob |

I agree with you about Comcast. They are coming down hard on multiple IP addresses. So be careful.
Putting it behind the router will be good. My opinion migth be that you assign a static IP address on the MTA for the Linksys.
Sometimes this may give you 3-4 blinks when putting it behind the router. Setting the static ip may fix this issue.
Log into the device http://192.168.102.1 and assign a static ip address outside the DHCP range in the Linksys. Make sure you just double check the DNS information.
This is just a suggestion and be careful with setting it up. That's all.
Good Luck Pinballwiz. |
