I purchased a D-Link DCM-200 router not knowing it was on, or that there ever was, a list of modems that are not supported by Vonage. The modem is docsis-1.0 and nothing will work when I try to connect the modem to my Linksys RTP300 router from Vonage. I purchased an 8 port Dynex switch to try and put between the two, but that didnt seem to work either, although I confess I am not very good at setting up networking.
Am I out of luck and have to resort to buying a new modem? The service worked fine on my friends Motorolla surfboard he let me borrow, but Ive since had to return that modem to him.
Thanks for any advice you can offer,

If it were me, and for my own sanity, I'd go pick up a Surfboard at Walmart. It'll work great, not only for your Vonage, but for your Internet access as well. It just seems to me that it's easier sometimes to break down and buy, instead of trying to make something work that probably won't. In the end, it'll save you the headaches. |

I'm kinda surprised that the switch didn't fix it:

You might be able to make it work with enough fiddling, but if you want stability, then I second the "Buy a Motorola" idea. An SB5100 or SB5120 should run about $60, but I've seen them on sale for $40 on rare occasions. |

D-Link doesn't even list the DCM-200 on their website anymore. For what it's worth, I have the DCM-202 and it works great, with Comcast at least. But there's no reason to have a cable modem that's not DOCSIS 2.0 at this point.
I think my modem was free after rebate too, bought about this time last year. |

Thanks for all the input- I guess I'll end up getting a new modem. The only thing I dont get is why the modem wont even work when connected to the 8 port switch without the Linksys router even plugged in. I guess its just too old of a modem... |

Well, I actually ended up going to the local Charter cable location and speaking with one of the reps there. I was able to get them to lease me a brand new Ambit modem free of charge for 6 months, and after that they will give me the option of buying it for 30 dollars. Not a bad deal at all. |
