My only problem with all if this is that the few faxes she does send are rather important, and there is not really a way to call, and make sure they go through every time. Im just paranoid that it's not going to work reliably. |

Just looked around, and aparently I can't turn of ECM, or change the baud rate on my machine, so I guess we'll see. |

| Quote: | | Related to Fax question. Any problems receiving faxes on a single voice Vonage line with answering machine on same line? I have a fax and an answering machine now on my road runner cable (plus computer and TV) and I can receive faxes only when answering machine is disabled and vice versa. Or else I must have something wrong with my settings. |
The only way you can "automatically" receive faxes is by either disabling the Vonage voice mail or by setting the fax machine to answer calls before your voiemail. Neither of these solutions were plausible for my situation so what I did was change the setting on my HP PSC 950 from automatic fax receive to manual fax receive.
When someone is sending me a fax, I answer the phone and listen for the fax tones, then I press 123 and hang-up the phone, then the HP connects and receives the fax. |

Todd, I understand your paranoia. Try sending and receiving faxes from someone you know. The only caveat with receiving faxes through the Vonage voice line is that you will have to disable your voicemail or set the fax machine to answer before your voicemail picks-up. There maybe a setting on your fax machine where you can change it from automatically receive to manually receive. |

Just to clarify the dedicated fax line is more reliable then the voice line, and doesn't require changing the baud rate/ecm (because I can't)? |

I, personally, cannot say it is more reliable because I don't have a dedicated fax line. All I can do is give you my experience with faxing through the Vonage voice line...it works. Have you tried to fax through the Vonage voice line?
In theory, the dedicated fax line is "suppose" to be more reliable. After looking at the dedicated fax line service, I did not see any mention of having to change the baud rate or the ECM. Consult with Customer Service to verify. |

Well I just sent a 4 page test fax to a friend, with the standard voice line with not tweaking of settings or anything, and it worked perfectly, so I think this might work. |

Great...Now, have your friend send you a fax to make sure that you can receive as well as send. |
