Dear 3pcc, I would like to develop a script that would call my phone from Vonage client each time I receive an email. When an email arrives, the Vonage client would be notified, and an automated phone call would be made from my Vonage number to any number I choose, at that point a prerecorded message would be played informing me that I have an email "Hello this is your Vonage phone service letting you know you have a new email". In fact depending on the subject line or who sent the email, I would like a different phone to be contacted... Could I develop such a script? Is it already developed? If not, what language would best be suited for this task? PHP? Java? If its possilbe, I will pay to have it developed. Thank you in advance for your reply

In order to accomplish this you need two parts. Part 1 is dependent on your mail server and operating system. It simply invokes the second part upon receipt of an email with the proper arguments. This part does the email to phone number translation and if desired it could do the text to speech translation of the email subject and or sender. Part 2 is a softphone client that takes a phone number and prerecorded message as command line arguments. You will have to consider things like number of rings and handling voicemail systems. This will require that you have an outgoing softphone line. You will need to analyze your expected call Volume to determine if Vonage would be suitable for this task. An example: Using a sendmail server on a Unix platform, procmail could be used to do a text to speech conversion of the subject and sender using Festival and Asterisk could be used to place the outgoing call with the prerecorded messasge. With the Asterisk solution a Vonage softphone line could be used, or additional hardware could be installed to place the call through a standard Vonage line. An example of something similar, though more complex, is available from The Messenger Project. |
