My has now gone up $3.75. Looks like we are going to get taxed to death. I sent an e-mail to billing as according to the list of 21 states that will they will be charging taxes in, NY is not one of them. So unless the list is incorrect I shouldn't be charged but we will see what billing has to say. I agree that if this is the sign of the time they will start to look a lot like the telco's.

Fortunately, so far, Maine (known as "Vacationland" by people not from here, and "Taxationland" by us residents) has not jumped on the Vonage taxation bandwagon. Yet.
So, my bill went up when they added the new 911 fees ($27.24 to 27.72), then took a 4-cent jump in May due to an increase in the Federal Excise Tax (now $27.7 .
Eventually, the school district I'm not sending my daughter to (we're doing private school) will decide that I have to pay the ~$3 a month School Excise Tax, and the roads I rarely use (I telecommute) will be paid for by the local Road Excise Tax ($1.50), etc etc, and even then I'll be getting away cheaper than a comparable landline from Verizon.
(A "basic" line from Verizon is $20 a month, and that does not include long distance, caller ID, voice mail, or anything but a plain phone lne) |

Now 2006:
| Code: |
Residential Basic 500 for 1-(814)-xxx-xxxx (04/Jun-03/Jul) $14.99
Regulatory Recovery Fee $0.99
Emergency 911 Cost Recovery $0.99

It's still way cheaper than Verizon POTS ever was for me. Though, the RT31p2 is a pile, often rebooting itself at will. Also, takes multiple tries to get to voicemail using *123. Meh. I don't use the phone more than 100 minutes a month anyway. I would downgrade, but I'm afraid if I do, i might feel too limited in my usage if it's required. |

Hehe, just found this forum sitting on hold waiting to ask for a credit for no voicemail service for the last two weeks. 15 minutes so far!! Woohoo!
Anyways, I also switched from Qwest at about a 8.00/month savings. My bill has gone up from 27.24 to 31.05 in 3 straight increases. (I live in MN).
So much for one price, period! |
