I have an actiontec gt701-wg modem that is also a wireless router. It has a LAN ip of 192.168.0.1 and serves address from 192.168.0.2 to 254 My vt2442 is connected to this and my pc is connected to the vt2442. I need it to be able to get some port forwarding for a web service but it can't get past the actiontec modem.

I would like to turn off DHCP for the vt2442 and set up a static IP address. Anyone know what IP address I should use for the LAN and WAN of the vt2442? I already tried 192.168.0.102 for the WAN and that screwed things up and I had to reset the vt2442.

I'm trying to find this also.

One thing I know you will need to do is to reserve an IP address on your first router. change the available addresses from 2-254 to 10-254. Then, you should be able to 'reserve' .2 for the VT2442. Next time you restart the router is should get the .2 address, and will get it every time, no matter what other equipment is attached.

I still can't get the VT2442 to pass through DHCP request to my main router (a DI-604 I use for FIOS), nor will it allow satic addresses outside the 192.168.15.x range. My other routers allow that without any problems.

You mentioned 'reserving' *.*.*.2 for the vt4224. Is there a setting in the actiontec setup where I can do that or do I just set the WAN ip of the vt4224 to be that after changing the DHCP range on the actiontec?

Currently, the range is set at 10-254 like you said and my laptop took 10 From the vt4224 setup I set the WAN ip to 2 and turned off DHCP but my desktop that is connected to the vt4224 still gets an IP in the vt4224 range instead of the actiontec range. One thing to note is that I can now reach the actiontec from my desktop

Heres the IP addresses for clarification
actiontec LAN 192.168.0.1
laptop 192.168.0.10
vt4224 WAN 192.168.0.2

vt4224 LAN 192.168.15.1
desktop 192.168.15.2

could I forward a port on the actiontec to my desktop?

You should be able to forward a port, but that is clumsy if you need several.

The problem is that we can't seem to turn off the firewall and NAT capabilities of the VT2442 even when we want only the first router to do those duties.

We SHOULD be able to, and the buttons are there. But if I turn them off, computers connected to the VT2442 no longer get an IP address (when they should be getting one from the main router).

I'm hoping that someone else has gotten this to work and can post isntructions.
