So I thought there would be a lot of interest on day one with a good initial bounce. I was wrong on that one, but I'm not running off and selling. I knew it was risky going in and didn't bet the farm or mortgage the house. Less than 1% of invested assets.

New opinion is that it could be a long time before we see $17 again unless someone is interested in acquisition, or Vonage figures out a way to run the business and acquire new customers for less money so they can at least be cash flow positive, if not profitable.

Vonage was shopping around for a private acquisition, and probably found either no interest, or may have found interest but could not agree on a price. Now if there is anyone interested in acquisition they know what the price is.

For acquiring customers at a lower cost they could enter into partnerships with cable companies. Maybe smaller, regional cable interests that can't afford to build out their own Voip.

wcshalk, you are extremely wrong about your view of some smaller cable firm would partner with Vonage. I used to work in strategic planning for a large cable co. I know A LOT about Cable cos.

First of all no one want to buy Vonage because it's Voip built out. Vonage has NO built out. Someone will want to buy Vonage because of its customer base. Once Vonage is bought, the purchaser will convert Vonage's customers into its own. The capital intensive part of Voip service is not the routing equipment (granted, it does cost a lot of money in the views of you and I). However, that money is pitiful compared to laying fiber optic cable which is the foundation for all of your services possible. Not to mention the cost of upgrading and maintaining those fiber optic wires. The only company has the balls to lay fiber optic wires along with Cable cos' wires is Verizon who has spent BILLION of dollars to do it. With all the money Verizon has, it is still a huge struggle for them to get a return on its fiber optic overlay investment. But that's another analysis.

Secondly I don't know where you got the idea of a "small cable co". There are not small cable cos in this world, simply because it is a capital intensive business and it needs the absolute power of economic scale to survive. That's one of the reasons you see all the cable cos swapping territories to cluster them in larger scales. Please name a few small cable cos for me.

How about Service Electric Television? They are small in comparison to most with around 290,000 subscribers. Believe me, they are out there.

Vonage already provides service through third parties. I have documented in posts previously about a small broadband in NY provider who teamed with Vonage to provide the triple play to their customers.

In the past Earthlink also used Vonage to supply Voip, but they developed their own solution and switched customers over.
