One word..."lame"! I read the news article too today and thought the same thing. Who bases a decision on stock on one day? For example, I bought stock in Hershey, and then lost hundreds, but I waited it out and it rebounded to my original purchase price and then some. You need to be patient.

I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but this is the most idiotic thing I have ever read.

You obviously have no knowledge of historical IPO returns over the first day and the longer term. With no "pop" in VG on day 1, i see very little reason to be involved in this stock unless you are shorting it.

IN Scottrades "Tomarrows News Today" paper I get it talked about VG being the worst IPO in 4 years. The stock they compare it to is GGBM. Granted the opening day was bad. But, do a histoy on the stock. In one month the stock started to rise. Withing 6 months it had more than doubled.

The stock market is not for the squemish or weak hearted.

If people dump, it will just make it cheaper for us that want to lower our avg and obtain more stock. I think it's crazy to dump on the first day unless you really couldn't afford the stock in the first place.

If you knew anything about average costing you would know that it is a practice that has been proven to be a worthless pseudo science.

I just know a little about stats and I can add and multiply Smile
Yes, if I hear you correctly, lowering your average price does nothing to change the market sentiment on VG. But if you think that the stock will eventualy go up, lowering your average price is one way to increase equity. I'm not telling anyone to do it. I'm just saing that's what I'm trying to do. If I fail, then I lost more money. I support Vonage in what they tried to do, and I hope the board will look to improve their bottom line and work to fix all the issues that is dragging down this stock in the public eye.

After all, this is just the first day, man! Smile

Wow, all the posts complaining about the stock going down and reports of people bailing out of their stock so soon. What did you expect? Did you think that the stock would skyrocket on the opening day like RedHat or Rhythms did in 1999? If you did, maybe you shouldn't be trading stocks at all.

I believe in Vonage and think they have a good product to sell, but I certainly don't know if they'll ever turn a profit or ultimately be successful. Vonage is much like TiVo. Neither company pioneered their respective technologies, but both were the first to make a name for themselves and make the world aware of the technology. If you look at the story of TiVo, ultimately we may need to determine if we think that Vonage will survive. TiVo survives because it can differentiate itself in the market. Their service offerings and features are different than the personal video recorders offered by the competition. Vonage provides essentially no different feature set than SunRocket or Packet8.

I didn't get in on the IPO priced shares and in hindsight that was lucky, but I did buy in this afternoon at 14.90 and I'll see where it goes. I'm not a twitchy investor and I see that I've already lost some ground, but I'm not going to freak out and dump for a loss if the stock drops another $3 tomorrow.

Good luck and hold on (for at least a bit).

You go on and on about how everyone here is a moron for thinking that the IPO would do well comparing it to the best of tech IPOs in the late 90s, and then you go into TIVO right away. How about we do compare this to TIVO? How did TIVOs IPO do? Why don't you go look that up, get back to me, and then connect the dots and see how people would have thought Vonage might have done decent on opening day. Maybe go read some research on IPOs and first day returns compared to longer term returns.

Whoa there, I never called anyone a moron. You're the only one adding 'moron' to this conversation. The point you seem to be missing is that I was comparing the two companies existence in their respective tech-space based not on pioneering the technology, but making it a household name.

As far as TiVo goes, they hit their IP on Sept 30, 1999 for $16 and closed at just under $30 opening day. Unfortunately shares are currently trading at less than 30% of that. Heck, if it wasn't for DirecTV extending their contract with TiVo last month they'd already be digging the grave.

Since you think you're so smart about IPOs, tell the class what Rhythm's story was. They set a record on the opening day of their IPO. What was it? Where are they now? Why?
