Post subject: Want to buy but VG is invalid
Just to try and put in a buy for 1000 @ $17 with TDAmeritrade to see if I could get any more when the market opens, and their site does not allow an order. Says
Please enter a valid stock symbol
.
Do broker systems not have an IPO stock until after the first trade? Is this because it's a NYSE stock which is traded on the floor instead of NASDAQ which is all electronic matching?

May have an answer to my own question. Since VG is not going to start trading at the open the stock is currently listed as
halted
. Guess I need to wait for the first trades to enter an order.

It's like that with all IPOs Nazz or NYSE. Unless your broker was allocated some shares and Ameritrade NEVER gets IPO shares. I even called them once and they said there's nothing they can do until it starts trading. VG could open for trading anytime from 9:30 until 11am.
