The senior engineer position I was offered early this year was about 90K, if that's any judge for you. |

Honestly, I would have, but I have a govt clearance and got offered another position that required one. Besides doing something I love, you never want that clearance to lapse once you have it; it's a great bargaining chip. |

I got it when I was active duty military for 10 years, did a real slick move and updated it right before I got out, (so it was good for two more years) and landed the job that wanted it within a year. It's not hard to get one, if you've never done anything horrible, it just takes forever. The perk is that if you already have one, a potential employer doesn't have to foot the bill to run an investigation, which runs anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000 smackers.
Any joe can get a clearance, IF the job requires it, IF the employer will pay for it or it can be transferred, and IF you have nothing too horrible in your background.
